Ahh his brother took over like a family member inheriting the throne and then when Raul stepped down their handpicked successor stepped in. Their revolution of the Granma group should have been phased out in the 1970s and 1980s when China was opening up and Soviet UNion was collapsing.

Sadly Cuba could develop the same because despite the shitty dump Castro took on his people you have a generally educated population with a good work ethic (you have to have a good work ethic to continue to work under those shitty conditions). Cuba could become a jewel of the Carribbean:

Adjacent to Caymans means it has the same beaches and water for beautiful resorts. I went to one resort tin the Keys in Cuba and it was 99% Canadians and was pretty nice (run by Melia) but would be awesome once the U.S. is allowed in.

They have basic highway infrastructure and just need a port revitalization and it could become a hub for Latin America.

American and United airlines could invest in the airport and make it a hub for Latin America as well and not be tied to shitty Miami or too far Houston. Look what COPA did in Panama.

Instead of putting auto plants or other manufacturing in Canada or Mexico, you coudl open plants in Cuba with a short transit time on the water to bring in goods direct to ports of Houston, New Orleans, Miami and Charleston. Could require U.S. flag vessels and rebuild the maritime fleets which are used in times of national emergencies.

English is spoken by many people who have tourism jobs. Would be real easy to set up call centers rather than running them all the way to India and Malaysia and Phillippines.

Can turn Guantanamo into a better military base to have a presence in the area with cooperation.

Might take 5 to 10 years but would be nice to have competition with China and Mexico for offshore production and be closer to this region. At least half of Cuba is not even developed and there is plenty of farmland.

Not a new idea, but a very good one. Sadly we have a government that needs boogeymen so they can operate in the shadows of the ever impending threat of said boogeyman. Much more profitable for them personally and personal gain is the game they're in.
 
Reopening limited travel is fine but trade with Cuba is a grande problema. Obama had the right tune in this respect. We need to be able to spread cultural values in Cuba but not big money stuff. Never forget this same regime that is in power invited live and loaded nuclear missiles into Cuba and pointed directly at the US.

The regime has to go before full on trade.

Fidel's dead, Raul's enjoying retirement, the Soviet Union's gone. Sure Cuba could re-align w/China or Putin. I suppose the Japanese could plan to bomb pearl harbor again too.

Let's not forget the embargo predates the cold war, as it was a response to nationalization of American oil industries on the Island. The Mexicans did the same to us and we get along fine.

The embargo punishes any country's biz w/interests on the island, basically bullying other countries against Cuba. This should at least be scrapped. Keep in mind us not being
