After agreeing to order an FBI investigation into the credible sexual abuse allegations brought against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump has reportedly restricted what the agency can look at.
Despite saying the FBI has “free reign,” Trump has set tight rules that appear to stop the investigators from pursuing promising leads.
According to a NBC News report, Trump won’t allow any investigation into the gang rape allegations brought forward by Julie Swetnick or even allow the FBI to obtain documents related to alleged accomplice Mark Judge’s brief tenure as a Safeway bag boy, which would help establish a timeline for Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s account.
In the NBC News report, a Trump aide claimed “it’s not unusual for the White House to set the parameters of an FBI background check.”
However, former White House ethics czar Norm Eisen says that’s not true.
“I dealt with hundreds of these as [White House] Ethics Czar and it is malpractice for [White House] to rule out Swetnick, Yale boozing, Judge’s Safeway job, etc,” Eisen wrote on Twitter. “I call cover up.”

According to NBC’s reporting, sourced to a White House official, Trump has banned the FBI from investigating the gang rape allegations brought forward by Julie Swetnick.
Investigators will meet with Mark Judge, the accused accomplice of Kavanaugh. The recovering alcoholic has written extensively about his prep school exploits.
“But as of now, the FBI cannot ask the supermarket that employed Judge for records verifying when he was employed there,” a source said.
This is a big deal because while Blasey Ford cannot recall the exact date of the attack, she did testify that she remembers seeing Judge afterwards at the Potomac Village Safeway, where he worked.
In Judge’s memoir, he wrote about a short stint working as “a bag boy.”
The details could help fill-in missing information Blasey Ford’s testimony and show whether the assault happened in July 1, 1982, a night Kavanaugh documented attending a get-together than matches Blasey Ford’s description on his calendar.

I think trump will is using the fbi to dump kavuanuah. He’s not going to allow a Supreme Court Justice like that be confirmed 1 month before the midterms. It would be a rallying cry for women everywhere. If the fbi finds something, trump can shoot Kavanaugh and find another ultra right judge after the midterms when he has more flexibility.
I personally think if the truth were known... Trump really doesn't care if Cavanaugh makes it or not. Trump is all about his personal optics and hey... "I tried;... can't blame me".
He may in fact deep down prefer a more centrist Justice... keep the Court balanced.
You know damn good and well Ivanka and Jared would prefer more of a Merrick Garland type.
On next month's SCOTUS docket is Gamble vs US. No 17-646. This is what the rush is about. At stakes is the "separate sovereigns exception to double jeopardy. If he (and the other 4 conservative judges) vote to overrule it, people given presidential pardons for federal crimes cannot be tried for that crime at the state level. Bam. Trump can pardon the lot of them and they have nothing to fear from state's attorneys."
That must be of great concern to the democrats.
I would not be surprised if - even though the hearings are over and he did swimmingly well- someone suddenly came out of the woodwork and did a major hit job on Kavanaugh to stop him. Possibly digging up some really old shit that is so old and vague that he cannot defend against it.
