Walmart v. The Morons

Quote from peilthetraveler:

Walmart pays 11 cents an hour to workers in bangladesh and makes them work 17 hours per day and sleep in the factory so you can buy those ugly sweatpants for $3.50. Yeah, lets not let wal-mart fix the economy. So...do you want 5% unemployment like bangladesh and make 11 cents per hour, or do you want 10% unemployment and make $7.25 per hour.

I'm no fan of Wallymart but think what our world would be like without these low prices. Would any of us pay $75 for a dress shirt that you can buy from them for $25?

Also, I've sen information that indicates that over half of what they sell is made or grown in the US-remember they are now the largest grocery chain and most of that stuff comes from the US.

The point of the post, aside from drawing out the strong dislike many hold for them, is that they get their job done efficiently. A report came out today showing that our HS Seniors just scored the worst ever on the reading part of the SAT. Time to either shutdown the Dept of Education or maybe instead put some Wally people in charge.

Wal mart has encouraged corps to move over seas, such as etch o sketch, 500 jobs lost in ohio to china, wal mart wants to be the low cost provider, Sam would have never approved of such moves. Wal mart has told the small corps that sit on their shelves that wal mart drivers will take their goods to the distribution centers or their NOT going to be allowed to be on their shelves any longer, saving wal mart money by moving their trucks back full and not empty after a delivery.
The company has no problem helping employees sign up for govt services such as medicaid food stamps what have you. We the american people are subsidizing corporations.
Its still United we stand divided we fall, God bless all of you and your ventures.

WalMart tried to open a store in the LA Ghetto once... the local politicians didn't like them because they are non-union.. the upshot was that 500 jobs that would open for the inner city rez didn't happen, no entry-level work for the "youths"...

They did the same thing somewhere around Chicago. Liberal bastions that don't want jobs for people.
