The thing about VLO is that there are few companies like it.

It's more of a refiner than anything. Try finding some more besides TSO. Most of the other refineries are owned by Oil giants like Chevron, Exxon, Royal Dutch, etc.

So you know institutions will keep looking at this stock as a prime candidate to invest in, especially those with big funds to invest. As long as oil is up, it's a buy. The whole refinery issue only makes VLO & TSO more attractive than a stock like XOM.

It's up ~30% from this call, but TSO is up close to 40%.
I'm not knocking the call, I thought it was on point, but it's no revelation. You're basically long oil refiners. Any oil company would have given you a gain, but the more refinery oriented the company is, the bigger the gain.

VLO probably will hit a $100, but will encounter big bumps along the way. Expect shakeouts of the traders, just like the one you just observed via analysts opening their mouths. It takes patience & conviction to hold these stocks till they reach a fundamental sell point. I think a lot of people see VLO as a top notch choice and many have to get shaken out.
 
This is a new development. Oil has snapped the neckline on the head and shoulders. Price target should be in the 50s in theory. Airlines are getting bid up which is a very telling sign. VLO down in pre-market trading along with TSO.
 
I am still holding my June 65 calls on Valero. Interesting how crude oil turned around today. The Nigeria attacks seemed awfully convient. Events like that seem to make crude oil prices very unpredictable. The gasoline inventory number tomorrow makes me nervous since it is another unpredictable factor.

There have been some really good post regarding this stock, very informative. Hopefully others have benefited as well.
 
Here we go again. Another downgrade on VLO, this time by Bank of America, and this time its because they are not involved in oil and gas exploration and will not profit from the rise in oil prices? So now the profits from high gasoline prices and the widening crack spread is not enough?
 
"good short opportunity for vlo right now? prolly will fall to around 66-67 range before the next leg up?"

Why do you believe that it will pull back to that level? Do you see that as near term support? Do you believe that all the refiners are due for a good pullback at this time?

I had June $70 Calls when the stock was at $60 and they were less than a buck...now I'm feeling dopey. Same thing with PCU which has gone insane and I had $60 Calls on that for like $2 I think with a June expiry....now they must be $30.
 
Does anyone think that Valero can reach $80 by the end of next week? Goldman Sachs has a $105 price target on the stock, is that a 12 month price target?
