USA is sinking into 3rd world status

I think the American Middle Class will be an endangered species (In which case, I’m moving to Dusseldorf or Munich). There will be people in government-subsidised apartments, slums and tents, with no electricity.
There will also be people who live in mansions, where middle class tract houses once stood, have the latest Japanese/Korean Electronics, 3-4 imported cars, maids, and a Uninterruptable Power Supply/Solar Panels to smoothout the brownouts/blackouts from our aging infrastructure and eating exorbitant amounts of Russian Caviar and French Champange.
These people will almost certainly have exemptions from laws and rights that others dont. Most will work for our new egalitarian, socialistic, third world government.

What third world country in the world has a vast majority of their population which has more than one television in their home? Their isn’t one. The U.S. isn’t close to being a third world country, not by a long shot. The UK is no better off than us, if that’s what you think. Their markets depend massively on our exports to stay afloat, and NATO depends on the U.S. as their enforcement. Because if we don’t do it, who will? Sweden? Common knowledge is that if the U.S. goes down, much of NATO goes down with it. I understand that the U.S. needs to make a change, our priorities are certainly very badly misplaced. However, we are no where near becoming a third world country, no where near falling apart. Also, regardless of what anyone tells you, we have the largest and most effective military in the world. I have trouble believing we would accept the Chinese culture and be taken over by them without a fight, and i doubt if we were the defending force the Chinese would be able to infiltrate our borders. America is wounded, and is not perfect, but we are still the best country to live in in the world, and are very strong.

Wow the racial [philosophical like] comments were interesting to read but to say that america’s problems are all black/colored peoples fault is a little too foolish as the banking sector is just about to collapse for the second time, American CEOS are still outsourcing american jobs by installing american manufactories (everybody knows where…) not to mention the money of american investors that are being poured into foreign nations. And I have yet to see a black or colored CEO…

I totally agree that The USA is sinking into something, which might be close to 3rd world status. I have lived abroad for 4 years and every year I have come for a visit I have seen very little progress with things that the Europeans had figured out and implemented nearly 20 years ago. My husband, who is from Scandinavia, has come to live in The USA and is amazed and the backwardness and inefficiencies, terrible infrastructure, poverty & lack of education, and just plain ignorance and intolerance.

You mean, a place like Greece, Portugal, Spain, Italy? With their sparkling financial situation?

Or maybe a Nordic country that removes most of the earnings of the rich and not so rich?

Until a couple years ago, many European countries had longterm unemployment that was twice the USA. And the USA is likely to drop again given enough time.

In the USA we protest but generally hang together. In France, the Muslim minority... well, anyone who watches the news, knows...

USA, Europe, whatever. There is problems and there are benefits

Another idea:

Follow the blog postings on NYT re: Paul Krugman's accuracy. He has been seriously discredited by a number of experts - his professional detractors are many.

Paul Krugman is a dolt and a cake-eating utopian socialist. Not to mention an Enron 'adviser' back in the day. And don't start up about the Nobel, because Obama's award killed any remaining credibility the Nobel Society ever had.

Anyone who takes Paul Krugman at face value is a delusional simpleton. Facts and Paul Krugman are mutually exclusive functions.

You've killed 2 Nobel laureates and the Nobel org., not to mention one of L's is the president of the US.

And you? Let's have a good look at you. You're a sponsor of a site that can easily be called RETARD CENTRAL, and you want to hire some of these traders to work for you?

Fckin ET, there is just no bottom to this fun!!!!!

failed monetary policy

Federal Reserve officials are considering a new type of bond-buying program designed to subdue worries about future inflation if they decide to take new steps to boost the economy in the months ahead.

Under the approach, the Fed would print new money to buy long-term mortgage or Treasury bonds but effectively tie up that money by borrowing it back for short periods at low rates. The aim of such an approach would be to relieve anxieties that money printing could fuel inflation later, a fear widely expressed by critics of the Fed’s previous efforts to aid the recovery.

But they said they'd use the money from TARP for infrastructure and stuff...

TARP $$$ actually went to unions to reward them for their votes and loyalty at the polls.

There were no "shovel ready" jobs as promised by TARP and other stimulus packs... just Odumbo lies.

Everybody understands that "directing Federal tax money to individuals or groups" is UNCONSTITUTIONAL, right?

Lol. bernanke will go down in the annals of history as the Fed chairman who attempted to recind the ancient laws of economics.

eventually, the bond market and bond buyers will balk.

You got it exactly. This is how the world will probably end up as an oligarchy with a bunch of false badges on it. Look at the metrics. We are on a path to Neo Fuedalism. Replace words fief for corperation, consumer for pleb and it is the same. People like Anthony Mozillo are laughing at the American public because he has thier money and there is nothing anybody can do about it.
Unrealistic paths have been placed for people to get to prosperity and growth (American Dream). Anything to keep the the consumers from regaining control of their debtors prison. We are all going to become 2nd world citizens. The growth and inovation here in the US is being eliminated. After the NASA cutsand few other budget cutbacks on certain programs. The hand writing on the wall is very clear.

Just trying to get out of here,

I agree USA is sinking but what are forum members doing to save USA instead of discussing in forums.

It seems saving USA is the last concern for Americans

You need to "pick your battles".

NOTHING will work to bring about beneficial change in America... until 100 MILLION citizens take to the streets in protest. The government is prepared to dismiss/beat down lessor efforts.

Until then, anything you do is just pissn' in the wind.

What would YOU have forum members "do"?
