US senator questions forcing food workers to wash hands

I don't eat out much, and one reason is because of health concerns. If congress wants to do something about sanitation, why don't they write laws that force companies to actually tell me which foods come from China or other countries, rather than all these little games they play with their labels so I don't know where it comes from.

At some point government regulation must end and societal norms take over. I'm ok with the legal requirement to provide washing facilities, but balk at laws requiring the actual washing. How is that supposed to be enforced?
Exactly.

I don't know much about Tillis, except that he defeated an absolute dolt democrat who had held the seat, so we can rest assured he does not reflect any great loss in the overall intelligence level in the Senate.

He does seem to be right out of the "legitimate rape" school of idiot republicans though, guys who want to show what bad ass conservatives and principled deep thinkers they are. They constantly shoot their mouths off without bothering to consider how the liberal media will twist what they say. In this case, it didn't require much twisting.

All he had to say was that the states handle this kind of thing, no federal laws required. Actually, it escapes me why a US Senator is talking about this topic at all.

Yes, this is from Mr. "coal ash does not harm rivers" Tillis who spouted his mouth off about the beneficial effects of coal ash dumped in the Dan River immediately after the spill when all the downstream towns had to shut off their water supply intakes. Of course, his comments were in the context that no regulation was required of Duke Power in regards to dumping of coal ash. Pure genius.

and yes, I agree that Key Hagan is/was a complete dolt. We did not have any good choice in this Senate race election in North Carolina - which was the most expensive in U.S. history with spending of over $100M with over 98% of the funds coming from out of state.
