Uruguay

It looks like I can save less than $100,000, and yet, be able to (hypothetically) purchase a house in Alabama straight away...
Supposedly, according to at least one study, Bessemer, Alabama (16 miles south of Birmingham) is the most dangerous city in all of the USA, where the odds of becoming a victim of crime are one in nine. And Birmingham itself is fifth on the list, said to have 98% more crime than most other communities in the state.

So, I asked Microsoft Copilot which cities in Alabama have the lowest crime rates, and here is the answer I got...

Here are some of the safest cities in Alabama based on recent reports:
  1. Tuscumbia: Reported zero violent crimes, making it the safest city in Alabama.
  2. Southside
  3. Rainsville
  4. Piedmont
  5. Argo
  6. Satsuma
  7. Eutaw
  8. Margaret
  9. Glencoe
  10. Hokes Bluff
These cities have significantly lower crime rates compared to the rest of the state.

Here are a couple of extremely cheap homes on the market in Tuscumbia right now...

(It appears to me that, overall, I can probably live more economically in Alabama than I can in Uruguay.)

Those two homes are in Florence, which is across the Tennessee River a few miles north of Tuscumbia.
