Upgrading RAM from 4GB to 8GB

I have a HP computer with 4GB RAM.....HP Notebook - 15-ba009dx

I want to upgrade it to 8GB.

According to the specs from the comp I use: 4 GB DDR3L-1600 SDRAM (1 x4GB )

I bought the laptop from Best Buy but they did not have the RAM I needed.

You can buy 2 sticks of 4GB RAM or 1 stick of 8 GB . It says on the specs above that I have 1x4GB.

That means I am running 1 stick of 4 RAM, but how can I tell if I need 1 x 8GB or 2x4GB

Amazon lists 204 Pin SO-DIMM and 240 Pin DIMM .
How do I determine which one I need based on the specs from HP?

How do I determine the voltage? I think I have 1.35V.

Is Crucial a good name for RAM or does it really matter? I have only bought RAM once and it was PNY.

I went to Best Buy and the guy in the computer department knew less than I did about computers. He sent me to the Geek Squad. He looked up the model and told me that I needed DDR3L with 1.35V but then he told me that they did not have any in stock.

Ie., take a look at the memorystock-link where you can search for product and get RAM type.

Never cared enough about these details to memorize what is what, but important to get decent RAM. 64 GB is enough for me :D I have actually managed to max that out programming in Ninjatrader (not too hard to do), so can be useful to test heavy unoptimized code.

Good if you can return broken or wrong product from internet order within some weeks - month.

I did not see the remarks you posted above.
So......the RAM is not accessible and not upgradable?

It looks pretty easy what I expected to do from the link you provided.

The specs suggest I need a DDR3L...your remarks suggest a DDR4.. I did not think they were interchangable.

Was I wrong about the max of 8GB....can it go to 16GB?

64? Holy Cow. That's fast.

I want to get the order right the first time so I don't have to go through the hassle of returns.

Next time, I"ll just invest in a better laptop. But it was on sale for dirt cheap and it was hard to resist.

If your not running a 64bit version of Windows then your not even fully using the 4gb so don't bother.

Won't notice much of a performance game, unless your a gamer, 4gb is plently, 2gb is generally enough for anything.

I have 64bit X

I am not a gamer but sometimes.... a few times a week. .. I'll have 4,5 windows open and then the screen locks up and will stay there for a minute or 2 .......

It's irritating.
