IMO:
The issue is whether you are more likely to need hospital resources if/when infected. That's the real problem.
The vax decreases the number of people needing hospital resources; and for that reason alone, the vax is a great thing. It frees up the hospitals for patients with ailments that they couldn't have prevented by taking a simple vax.
People have died due to hospitals being full of unvaxxed covid patients.
If multiple infections all lead to symptoms like a cold or light flu, the fact you had multiple infections is about as relevant and meaningful as saying that I had multiple colds this year. Same logic applies to focusing on immunity, and 'which variant.'
It's not about the number of infections.
It's not about immunity.
It's not about which variant.
It's about hospital capacity.
This needs to be understood, if not for COVID, but for the next pandemic. The CDC, media, pros, etc. have done a horrible job making this clear to the public.
