The reality is that you don't want to be reminded of it daily, you want those days when you can lie to yourself, lie to your spouse by telling her that she is beautiful and doesn't have a fat ass, lie to your kids and tell them you love them when you actually want to smack them for being such brats, so you just plain don't have to deal with it...this living a lie works for most Americans, heck, just look around and seriously ask yourself how many in America spend time in introspection of why America is in such a condition of decline....every day just read the paper and see the level of corruption and real spiritual decline in our country.
