Twitter and Musk

The Data Show Twitter Is Far From Dying
The timeline below shows the estimated total daily tweets (blue) and tweeting users (orange) from Jan. 1, 2012, through Nov. 8, 2022. Peaking in July 2013, Twitter’s popularity slowly declined over the years, until pandemic lockdowns led to skyrocketing growth – a surge that was wiped away just six months later, when Twitter’s 2020 election anti-misinformation efforts went astray. As Musk’s Twitter takeover became more likely over the last few months, daily tweet volume actually increased and has remained stable in the weeks since his acquisition.

It’s great when the community shows up to be entertained by watching your house burn down.

So Musk is allowing ALL banned accounts back on Twitter. Will he allow the banned ANTIFA accounts which urged people to burn Tesla facilities? Or will he only allow right-wing accounts back on that urge attacks on government officials and the burning of offices.

Elon Musk on reports of Antifa wanting to burn down Tesla: “concerning.”

Elon Musk called a report on Antifa wanting to burn down Tesla “concerning.” The Tesla CEO responded to a Rebel News report on screenshots of calls to action. Andy Ngô, editor-at-large for the ThePost Millenial, shared screenshots of the calls to action by the now-suspended Twitter account @AshRedacted. The account posted links to Tesla locations and encouraged followers to add their own.

“Tonight in Portland! Every city, every town! Show up at your local Tesla dealerships in protest of Elon Musk!” one screenshot read with a photo of a burning Tesla. Ngô noted that the extremists wanted to get revenge on Elon Musk for suspending their accounts on Twitter.

And there is the question of whether the government will pursue the criminal actions of those proposing/instigating/colluding to burn Tesla down or not. Or is Elon left on his own for that because Biden has identified him as a political enemy?

Elon "shadowban absolutist" Musk:

Better analogy is that twitter was on fire and Elon is the fire department working to put it out.

Under Musk, Twitter has nearly no moderation -- hate posts are up several thousand percent, human trafficking material is at all time highs, copyrighted material including films are freely distributed, major advertisers are leaving in droves and banned posters driving violence, hate & misinformation are allowed back on the platform. You are sadly confused about Elon Musk -- he is the arsonist, not the fire department.

Nov 27 (Reuters) - Twitter Inc Chief Executive Elon Musk says new user signups to the social media platform are at an "all-time high", as he struggles with a mass exodus of advertisers and users fleeing to other platforms over concerns about verification and hate speech.

Signups were averaging over two million per day in the last seven days as of Nov. 16, up 66% compared to the same week in 2021, Musk said in a tweet late on Saturday.

The concept of "Bird Watch" (aka Community Notes) has some possible benefits for Twitter -- but not in the way that Musk is using it. Musk is simply allowing mobs to create their own facts -- leading to additional Covid misinformation, election-denial nonsense, and nonsense being upvoted as "facts" in Bird Watch -- making a mockery of the entire concept of presenting factual information as additional context.

There are easy fixes to allow only factual information to be presented as contextual references (as per the original Polis model which Bird Watch is based on) -- but Musk is deliberating avoiding doing anything proper. In fact his intent seem to be to deliberately allow Bird Watch to reinforce misinformation on Twitter.
