That's right, it is a gray area and depends on the circumstances. That's why this case could go either way.

Sorry, my glitch there, I knew the dad was in the back of the truck but thought I had it backwards yesterday after reading something had my Travis and Gregory confused.
The victim also physically outclassed Jr McMichael.
As I said before, when I was an anti-poaching ranger I would have read the riot act to any of my guys taking on a superior opponent solo, unlike the movies, the stronger guy nearly always wins. If you can't handle it, disengage and follow until you have back up. Threatening with a gun was not OK in this case and disproportionate.
The danger of this case, like the Kenosha case is mall ninjas confusing TV with reality. The law may have been on their side in the state at the time, the fault was bringing a gun into it.

The lesson is don't inappropriately wield a gun in a tense situation. There are paths of escalation that moron mall ninjas need to have explained are a big no-no.
Civilians don't threaten unarmed people in public spaces with guns, it is a serious assault and they will react to defend themselves and others. You have to have training and experience to avoid a gun tussle you ham-fistedly brought on.
