Trump trade war has failed to boost U.S. manufacturing...

I think if you guys can keep the politics out of the manufacturing discussion...

There will be less debates and more critical thinking about manufacturing jobs. I know its tough to do considering there's an ongoing U.S. election.

Seriously, when I see all the bashing, hate, hyping, personal attacks via one liners...makes me see the reason why so many traders are struggling in their trades.

Too many can not stay focus and remove from their trading whatever is causing them to become emotional.

Now back to trading (me)...

ok. Fair point.

my experience, running a manufacturer that competes with China, supplies
Chinese contract manufacturers, and sources from China is that the tariffs have done nothing to change our customers demand profile. Customers are willing to pay the tariffs.

which means, either the cost differential was so great that 20percent wasn’t enough; the complexity of changing supply chains wasn’t worth avoiding the tariffs; or they can pass the cost onto their customer. Each customers motivation is different.

I know of domestic manufacturers who have raised their prices 20percent just because they can now.

COVID, however has changed customer demand profile because they cannot rely on one geography making their product anymore for risk of pandemic related shutdowns.

I own a small business (10 employees) in France although I'm a U.S. citizen and living abroad here in Québec, Canada...

Talking to business owners (Canada, United States and France) that actually do compete with China...you're thoughts correlate well with their thoughts about the impact of tariffs on China.

Also, Covid-19 has changed everything although I do not know if its just temporary or a long lasting change.

photography, right? We might have spoken about it over PM.

I think it’s temporary. Memories are short and money is money.

Just my own two cents: Wall Street loves gridlock. And that's what we have. No sweeping popular mandate for Joe. No broad blue wave of gains that's for sure - just the opposite, there's now a pretty healthy Republican minority in Congress and it looks like McConnell holds the Senate. No Supreme Court majority to lean on.

If Biden pulls this out there's no way he'll get any legislation done without Republican support - in fact, he's kinda screwed.

Joe has zero chance to raise corporate taxes, raise capital gains, pack the Supreme Court, and blow up the filibuster. Not gonna happen now.

It wasn't supposed to be this close.

you spin it against the democrats, but I agree that a divided government means the adult’s compromise and the bat-shit stuff (on both sides) ends.

I do think the Supreme Court should lean liberal because it’s a slow moving part of America’s evolution and long term progress is only attainable with a liberal leaning Supreme Court.

You are living in real history, because this media and pollster-driven narrative about a sweeping blue wave was just flat out wrong. Again. Sure, Trump probably gets replaced but there is absolutely nothing for Biden to do the next four years other than eat his apple sauce and drink his Sanka.

The pollsters were wrong again. The only place that was right were the betting markets. The pollsters need to re-evaluate their statistics and I don’t know how 538 survives after this.

Biden will get stuff done unless the republicans are distinctly obstinate, which they might be.

Name one piece of legislation that Biden will get done that was in his platform. Keep in mind the Republicans have a strong minority in Congress now (they picked up something like 20 seats) and they hold the Senate. Corporate tax hikes? Capital gains tax hikes? End fracking and fossil fuels? Expand the ACA? Nope.

there will be compromise - which is what is supposed to happen. You think a single law isn’t going to get passed in the next 4 years? I take that bet in size.

Trump lies so much that he even claimed victory hours ago!!!
He is the best. He should be a comedian but he has so much money he would never do it. Wasted talent.
