Trump trade war has failed to boost U.S. manufacturing...

Four months lead time didn't do s***. Trump, right from the beginning when the virus was raging in China, Trump wanted to close the border to China; he wanted to ban all flights from China like many countries like Japan did in the world. At that time, the virus was still just confined in China and not really spread around the world yet. If USA had banned the flights then, it would've eliminated much of the possibilities of the virus being transported and eventually infecting America. Did anybody listen? Noooo. China accused Trump of racism. WHO screamed at Trump for overreacting and not trusting science because at the time, the genius WHO still believed that Covid-19's risk of infection is very very low despite seeing the rapidly spiraling of virus infection cases in China. And then community transmission of the virus happened because everybody decided to be ignorant and go to the Florida beaches to party and then carry the disease back to all of their home states since according to WHO, the risk of the infection is very very low and since nobody knew that asymptomatic transmissions of this virus is also possible because again the expert WHO said it's not even though there were already published reports of transmission of the disease while the carrier was asymptomatic. Would Biden had done better? Hardly unless he is an epidemiologist who knows about its potentially high risk of infection and asymptomatic transmission ahead of everybody otherwise he would've acted exactly the same way as Trump. Afterwards once the virus is everywhere in America, of course there was only so much Trump could do given the very limited PPE that was available due to the lack of local manufacturing in America. Everything had to be imported over from China. China provided its own healthcare workers FOUR layers of hazmat suits and N-95 masks while nurses in New York hospitals had to use garbage bags to cover their uniform and had to re-use N-95 cases. New York governors were counting down days remaining of PPE's. Would Biden had done better? Not unless he can magically make PPE's appear out of thin air otherwise he would've faced exactly the same problems and wouldn't have come up with any better solutions. And even then, Trump took drastic measures to procure more PPE's for the healthcare workers. He passed economic relief measures to aid all affected by the virus. Of course nobody talked about that and everybody still blamed him for this, for that...

This is what the left does to Trump. He never gets credit for anything that he's done right and nobody works with him to implement what he wants to get done. And then when things go wrong, everybody blames him and all think they themselves can do better. Yeah it's always easy to be an "armchair leader" but it's a totally different ball game when you are really in the hot seat making all the decisions while relying on incomplete and from an ad-hoc point of view incorrect information. Did I ever say I "consider this a good leadership"? No. what I said was and I still do. I believe he could do better but given the limited information and the limited resources, I believe nobody would've done any better than Trump, definitely not Biden. At the time, Biden was there. Did he make any suggestions AT THE TIME of what he would do? What kind of solution did he have? No. Not one peep! Now it's easy to say "you should've done this", "I would've done that". On an ad-hoc basis, everybody is a genius. And I am not taking my chances with an ad-hoc genius like Biden when he's provided really no real leadership during the pandemic crisis. At least Trump has done something. Something is better than nothing. And Trump is still doing his best to get America through this health crisis. All he needs is just everybody co-operating with him and work with him and not against him. It won't benefit anyone.

And Trump's never "put the blame on the governors and let blue state populations die.". You need to provide real hard facts instead of empty leftist rhetorics like these.

Why didn’t Trump stop all the flights from China in November? He could have done it in 10 seconds and we know he doesn’t give a fuck what China thinks (except when ivanka is looking for trademarks)

The virus hasn't started in November yet in China. What's there to stop? Trump did ban all the flights from mainland China, back in February. Where was Biden? What was Biden doing? What did Biden say? Nothing. He was busy saving America's soul!! America is about to get very ill with a deadly virus and all he is interested in is its soul...:D

Nancy Pelosi was telling everyone to visit China town and the Mayor of Florence was telling everyone to hug a Chinese person. Progressive politics literally kills you!

Trump doesn't even know how much 17 times 6 is. And that clown is trusted to lead a whole country???
The only things he knows very well is cheating and corruption. In these things it is difficult to beat him. No other President did ever better than he.

I'm confused. PMI that measures specifically manufacturing has been over 50 for years. Also if it didn't "help" much looking at it the other way at least it's not growing? Reversal could take a long time and China is doing everything they can to fight it.

Also according to Steve Bannon in an interview, they were looking forward to imports from vietnam and other countries that are not China. The whole idea of the tarriffs were to make us less dependent on China, not cut imports out completely. It'd be nice if Japan can make a lot of our goods but they're expensive!

Yes...another promise that he made to win the 2016 election...that promise did not come true.

Since the pandemic, China's trade deficit is back to where it was at the start of the Trump administration.

The above is what many do not realize. All that talk about tariffs did not pay off for Americans at the end of the day.

A pandemic they caused. Imagine where the deficit would be if there was no covid. Nobody saw Covid coming, yet liberals blame Trump when the whole world got plagued.

And then Trump said the virus will be fixed in 4 weeks.

It wasn't enough. That was obvious. The virus was already here in February. Everyone knew it. I didn't go to Chinatown when i went to NYC in January because I knew the virus was coming, and I grossly underestimated the impact the virus would have. My parents cancelled their trips for the year in January. Doctors were already talking about it. My friend, whose a state senator, said (in January) this was going to be an issue. All my customers stopped international travel in December and stopped domestic travel in February.

At best, Trump made a miscalculation and he won't admit he was wrong.
At worst, he did it intentionally because he knew it would hit liberal enclaves first.

And he's got all you doing mental gymnastics to prove that he was right the whole time. If you want, I can give you a sharpie so you can make up your own facts. Maybe you can draw a circle around Alabama or something.

My business was in the cross hairs of the tarriffs. That is tarriffs were designed to protect a company like mine. All the "job creation" by Foxconn and others opening plants in the US to create 30,000 jobs were supposed to help my company. We found no change. Customers are willing to pay the tarrifs because its too hard to move supply chains.

However, COVID has helped with reshoring. Manufacturers can't afford to have one geography making product anymore.

Remember the latter of what I mentioned. We're just less reliant on China, but nobody says we can't import from other countries. Vietnam is a great contender.

I thought it was MAGA not MVGA.

Jobs to come back to the US, not transfer to Vietnam.
