Trump Tax Reform - a total squeeze on middle class W2 workers

It's worse, grad school stipends are taxed as income.
It makes sense, since the current Republican party is against science and by extension the graduate level education that is required for science to happen.

You can't let greedy college students who effectively have a negative net income get away with not paying taxes. Besides bank of America makes only 5 billion a year and they need the money more. Make America great again.... For the rich.

Companies increase wages to keep up with competition, inflation and to obtain new qualified workers. They also increase wages to keep workers because training new employees is more expensive and can be disruptive to normal businesses operations.

Basically they keep increasing wages until the wages meet the requirements of qualified candidates. They don't increase wages because they have extra money.
How can they increase wages with all the conditions met but them having no money? You think it's different this time when it comes to competition, keeping workers etc?
More money to spend on R&D, cheaper products, higher earnings, expanding business cycle.

You jest but that argument has been made as to why certain areas of the South remain deeply uneducated.

My 2 daughters, full time undergraduate students in college are taxed on their part time earnings, co-ops, and summer internship earnings (obviously per the filed return)...why should grad students be different ?

The biggest lie about this is the fact that most people will pay more in taxes and not less. Do you remember ACA, if you like your plan you can keep it? Very similar just a lie to sell this BS.

I maybe in the minority here but I think taxes are too low across the board. Half of America pays no federal income taxes. And of those that do, 90% of them have an avg effective tax rate in the single digits. I'm not saying we would be paying the 40% France or Canada does, but somewhere in between 5% and 40% would make sense.

BTW, do you know why voter turnout in Europe and the rest of the world dwarfs ours? It's because in most of the civilized world "ALL" citizens have a stake in their country. If you are a progressive you should be raising taxes on everyone. Not because you believe in socialism, but because making people pay taxes gets them to show up to vote. One of the reasons why Republicans keep driving taxes down is to reduce voter turnout. I am always shocked when I hear the left cry out about how the middle class is not getting a tax cut. They clearly don't understand how to win elections as evidence by the ass kicking they keep getting in the governorships around the country.

I would be down to pay more if I got something for that money. Health care? Higher education? Retirement and social safety net?

Because it's not income. They pay less tuition for school and for that they do certain tasks for the school such as being teaching assistants etc. They never receive any. Do your kids pay taxes on their Pell grants?
