Their economic minister on TV said that they will not sign any trade agreements they deem unfair to Switzerland. So, if it is good enough for them, why is it not good enough for the US? Switzerland has more trade with other countries than the European Union combined?

First of all Switzerland does not impose taxes like Trump does.

Second Switzerland has exports for 774 billion euro. Germany has on its own already 3040 billion euro.

The US situation is very similar to Britain 110 years ago.
No longer THE super power that she was. The others had caught up and doing commerce and manufacturing better. Being displaced as number one is a painful process.
Just as Britain had difficulty in adjusting to the new situation so has the US now.

Now that other countries are busy developing new trade relationships that don't include the USA, isn't there a danger that if this goes too long, they'll go and take the bulk of their business elsewhere?

The US is no longer the only game in town and if they push their friends and allies away without regard for these things, Europe, Asia and the South Pacific may well set up deals that mean the US isn't needed.
There's already the TPP and Australia is setting up a free trade deal with the EU and a bilateral deal with the UK. China is working to set up deals into Europe and in the Pacific with its One Belt One Road program. Canada and Mexico are in the TPP and are talking with the EU.

DJT's approach is fine when the other guy has nowhere else to go, but is that still the case here?

The way I see it, they can go sign other trade agreements where they want them. They can tolerate the one way, unfair trade and let us see how the country being taken advantage of fares in the long run! This is not rocket science, unfair, one sided trade will have only one winner then, what? Life is about choices. You have to lie in the bed you made!

Most of the Chinese is junk but the price is ridiculously low. China makes plenty of high end stuff nowadays, where are the much loved Apple products made?

Unfair trade practices are there so, you do not really have capitalism as it should be! Globalists just want to enslave everyone which is their goal. I have no delusions that CEOs of Google, Facebook, Tesla are all globalists. They exploit everyone they can including, their host countries. Why do you think the European Union has levied billions in fines on Google among other things? Innovation is being developed daily. President Trump would rather that there not be a trade war nor tariffs because it would be better for everyone. However, unfair, one sided trade will not be tolerated. No one with any unfair trade advantages will give up that willingly. Why should they? Talking about socialism, majority of European countries are socialist.
