I am Italian, and I can tell you I have a very direct line to your future, when the health system is saturated by corona virus people die not only by corona virus but die for things that are normally manageable. imagine going to the emergency room with an infarction and having reduced or no assistance because of the influx of thousands of corona virus patients everyday.
today, Saturday 28 march at 1,21 pm the US has 115K reported cases of corona virus infection, next Saturday the number will be around half a million, by the following Saturday the number will be in the millions, one month from now there will be 10 of millions cases in the US, with a mortality rate between 1% and 3% that means that hundred of thousands will die.
how will the economy do at that point? will people risk going to work?

No it's an educated opinion based on the data we've got, yours is a scare story from the media, this is not the plague, far far from, this would go along a lot better, if people could remember that.
I was thinking the same two weeks ago, than reality hit me, the US is early in the development of the pandemic and the growth is still exponential so every 2-3 days the number of reported cases and deaths duplicate and without lock down it will keep growing until 70% of the population will have been infected (herd immunity point). This is an educated opinion based on data provided by epidemiologists. I avoid the media and only get my information from scientists.

Doubles every 3 days, going upto 7days with a pretty hard lockdown and just dies if you literally lock everyone away, but you'll miss 1 person, flight from else where and repeat.
looking at 60% have in the UK but 14day lag, which means lots of deaths next 2 weeks sadly.
US is behind, areas likely 60%, others just starting.
