In an extraordinary intervention timed to coincide with his UK visit, Mr Trump said Theresa May ignored his advice by opting for a soft Brexit strategy.

And he warned her any attempts to maintain close ties with the EU would make a lucrative US trade deal very unlikely.

Mr Trump said: “If they do a deal like that, we would be dealing with the European Union instead of dealing with the UK, so it will probably kill the deal.”

European Union like China has the most tariffs imposed on imports coming in the the European Union and huge tariffs called value added taxes imposed on them! If the UK wants a trade deal with the US, it has to cut the European Union economically! President Trump is right. By talking a conciliatory approach towards the European Union and refusing to cut economic ties, any trade war occuring between the European Union and the US will hurt the UK as well! Theresa May made the very bad mistake of kowtowing to all the demands of the European Union globalists. What she should be doing is striking a trade deal with the US and would be dealing with the European Union from a position of strength instead, of weakness!

Trump got the last laugh by trashing our centuries old relationship with our closest ally. The “very stable genius” strikes again.

You mean the ally that tried to meddle in the election and then was part of an effort to topple Trump after the election? The ally with the loathsome Prime Minister who was invited to the WH, came begging but still found time to lecture Trump?

We HAD a special relationship with the UK. For the most part, that involved us sacrificing our men and money to rescue them from two world wars they could have easily avoided. The UK we had a special relationship with by virtue of history and culture no longer exists. Trump can see that and is acting accordingly.

Great Britain, a theme park with its own currency, has been allowed to pretend to be a world power by virtue of its relationship with the US. Trump posed the question " What are we getting out of that?" and no one had much of an answer.

It seems we HAD a lot of good relationships before Trump came along. Now we are cozying up the Russians and shunning our western allies.

Liberal heads might explode, sorry!!

A trade deal between the US and UK "will absolutely be possible", Donald Trump has said, after he told the Sun Theresa May's Brexit plan could kill an agreement.

Speaking alongside the PM after talks at her country residence, Chequers, Mr Trump said the US-UK relationship is "the highest level of special".

Mrs May said they had discussed plans for an "ambitious" trade agreement.

Thousands of people are protesting in London against Mr Trump's visit.

A large balloon, portraying the president as a baby, has been floated in Parliament Square as part of the demonstrations. Other protests are taking place across the UK on Friday and Saturday.

The president and First Lady Melania Trump have travelled to Windsor Castle to have tea with the Queen.

The monarch greeted the couple as their motorcade arrived. The band of the Coldstream Guards then played the Star-Spangled Banner and she invited the president to inspect the guard of honour.

After meeting the Queen, the Trumps will fly to Scotland on a private trip to spend the weekend at his Turnberry golf resort.

Mr Trump and Mrs May's meeting took place after the Sun published its wide-ranging interview with the president in which he criticised the PM's plan.

But at the Chequers news conference, Mr Trump praised Mrs May as an "incredible woman" who was "doing a fantastic job" and said there could be a "great" trade deal between the US and UK.

He said: "I read reports where that won't be possible, but I believe after speaking with the prime minister's people and representatives and trade experts it will absolutely be possible".

Mr Trump's first visit official visit to the UK as president is taking place in between the Nato summit and a meeting in Helsinki with Russian leader Vladimir Putin
