So this entire argument is pointless. The "rules" are advisory in nature.
Players are subject to penalties for not being on the field during the anthem.They are not subject to penalty for not standing during the anthem.

No.Just because the penalties are discretionary doesn't mean the rules are advisory.

Well hell Tony... if the rules concerning murder were discretionary, there'd be a lot less ex-wives out there walking around.
If you don't enforce the penalties, who the hell cares? You can do whatever you want.
One has a possible penalty(not being on the field for the anthem),the other has no possible penalty (not standing during the anthem)
