Trump eliminates pay raises for civilian federal employees

Obama inherited a structural deficit of over $1 trillion, more like $1.2 and handed off a deficit of less than $600 billion.

You will never in your life see a president reduce the deficit as much as obama in total dollars or as a percentage.

Conversey, Bush holds the record for deficit increases. He actually inherited a surplus and handed off over a trillion in deficit.

Trump is off to a start very similar to W. I would not be bringing up deficits if I was a Republican voter. There’s only so long you guys can pretend to care about deficits until you start getting laughed at.

If I was a Republican I would start thinking about the merits of the massive deficits you guys have voted for.

This is the type of flippant comment that proves how thoughtless Trump supporters really are.

The government is responsible for major public goods and services. It is a massive operation that covers everything from the air we breathe, to the food we eat, to healthcare we receive, to the worthiness of our investments. It cannot be understated how important government is to all of our lives on the fundamental level.

Implying the people who work for the government don’t do work, or their work is not important is just ignorant.

Sorry Cowboy. That dog don't hunt.

Obama reduced the deficit by refinancing/deferring it through long term debt. Same way as when your ilk runs up their credit card and then crows about paying it off when they took out a home equity loan to cover it.

Talk about a dog that don’t. Deficits went down under obama because of spending constraints and smart taxes.

Uh huh. And that trillion dollar stimulus package fiasco right out of the starting gate, was paid off by a GOFUNDME account.

Okay fine.

Geez Louise, learn the diff between structural and off budget expenses. Bush tried stimulus and a huge Wall Street bail out too. We can add those up along with the supplemental spending on the wars too if you really want to do a brass tax comparison.

I’m guess you don’t.

I see. You actually had a surplus rather than a deficit last year if you don't count that unplanned- one-off trip to Vegas.

Got it.

Obama lowered the deficit with things like sequestration, ending the Iraq war, ending some of the bush tax cuts, obamacare etc moron

In case you care about something other than your narrative (I doubt you will).

President Obama had the largest deficits. By the end of his final budget, FY 2017, his deficits were $6.690 trillion. Obama took office during the Great Recession. He immediately needed to spend billions to stop it. He convinced Congress to add the $787 billion economic stimulus package to Bush’s FY 2009 budget. This added $253 billion to the FY 2009 budget. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act added another $534 billion over the rest of Obama’s terms.

In 2010, the Obama tax cut added $858 billion to the debt in its first two years. Obama increased defense spending, adding as much as $800 billion a year. Federal income decreased due to lower tax receipts from the 2008 financial crisis.

Both Presidents Bush and Obama suffered from higher mandatory spending than their predecessors did. Social Security and Medicare benefits were eating up more of the budget. Health care costs were rising as the American population aged. In 2010, Obama launched the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. It sought to reduce health care spending. This reduction would lower the debt by $143 billion by 2020. In total, $983 billion was added to the national debt under Obama.

President Bush is next, racking up $3.293 trillion over two terms. He responded to the 9/11 attacks with the War on Terror. That raised military spending to $600 billion a year. The Bush tax cuts, also known as the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act and Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act, cut taxes to address the 2001 recession. Unfortunately, the cuts did not sunset when the recession was over. That worsened the housing boom and depleted revenues during the 2008 recession.

He attacked the 2008 financial crisis with the $700 billion bailout. Congress added the bailout to the mandatory budget. There it became the Troubled Asset Relief Program.

My narrative is Obama inherited the largest STRUCTURAL deficit in history and cut it in half. I am saying he did not create that structural deficit Bush and the Republicans in Congress that controlled the Government entirely did with unfounded tax cuts and reckless financial oversight.

What you posted doesn’t help understanding why obama has such high deficits. I am speaking to the cause, the solutions and the outcomes.
