Trend lines and Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle

The uptrend that started in 2009 must not have been real. The market is not up a bazillion percent from that time, because nobody has yet opened up the box with Shroedinger's cat in it to see if the bull trend of the last 10 years is alive or dead. It is only when you observe the trend (cat) does it become reality.

Many try to find out why something happens ... rather than why it doesn't.

Anyway my preference is to look for failures when it comes to trendlines.

But humans do not work the market anymore. It is all those darned algos and other computers.

Similarly, the more you zoom in on a chart, the less meaningful the trend lines are. On a tick chart, they're all but meaningless. You could "see" a clear trend on a 5-minute chart, only to zoom out to a week and see it as meaningless.

Thoughts?

I don't draw trend lines or any other type of line, but, I do use tick charts and I do look for trending movement. I don't give a shit if the "trends" I observe are meaningful or meaningless. All I care about is whether I can profit from my observations and entries, in a methodical and consistent manner. If/when a time comes that I can no longer do so, I'll move on. But that time has not yet arrived. Quite the contrary.

It is totally meaningless, because the Dow is now almost double that number at this point. Nobody observed the bear market that was trying to form. All they observed was the continuation of the bull. The cat was alive and kicking.

And I remember late 2015. I was there. Lost a fuckton of money thinking I was seeing a dead cat. Nope, the cat lived because people saw right through China's Yuan manipulation scheme.

Yes, plus FA is very boring.

If I believe that in 3 years, the USD will be in better relative position to AUD than it is today...
