It’s directional. If I have a material view I will seek to maximize returns on the view. I’ll usually position 3-10 days before an event depending on what’s going on.

I guess that trading the news really matter when you're fond of long-time traing and fundamental analysis. Short-time trading doesn't require news mostly because everything there is analyzed due to technical analysis. You always check the trend movement, with a help of patterns like triangle, determine trend reversals and other things. I believe that if there will be a serious event in the world then it also affects short timeframes like 1M-1D, the price either will go down ot rise up sharply. And this is the only scenario when news affects short timeframes.

MY plan does not require trading off fake news; but 80% of my ETFs are Very liquid. Strangely/ the less liquid stuff may move less on fake news...............................................................

Although it can be profitable, I don't advise news trading. It is very challenging to understand and even harder to put this strategy into practise. In addition to requiring a significant amount of time and effort, your success is not guaranteed.
I avoid trading the news due to the high volatility but prefer trading post the news.
