There's an aweful lot of of free expression and anti establishment rhetoric in this thread. I'm afraid I'll have to report you all to my Republican higher ups before things get out of hand.
Quote from Rearden Metal:
A significant impact could be created, even without the Libertarians winning a thing.
Imagine if 10% of voters had cast their ballots for the Libertarian candidate. Suddenly, you'd see both big parties pandering to Libertarians, making frequent pro-freedom (=anti nanny-state)
gestures in attempt to grab our vote- Just like they pander to every other minority group with significant numbers.
Why the fuck do I even bother? It's not like I can do anything to prevent the Orwellian Hell this nation is about to become. That's how Cassandra Complex works, after all.
Quote from StockApprentice:
Rearden.... I'm with you... really I am. And I'll be voting this fall for the first time in a while... But... when one considers the gravity and the apparent impossibility of the situation... there is not much more we can do but SHRUG. You know?
Quote from mschey:
I'm with you Rearden....keep fighting the fight and putting the word out. I am sick and tired of every aspect of my life being controlled and legislated. Who the fuck are they to tell me I can't gamble online?
Quote from TheActionKid:
I completely agree; what the hell is going on - pretty soon you won't be able to log onto the internet altogether anymore because of some new law. I played online poker for a living for 3 years of my life and was very successful and I am outraged by this new legislation. Its not only the poker players from around the US that should be worried, but the common man as well, as more and more freedoms are being taken away day by day....

Quote from og5:
I mistakenly believe that Libertarianism is no different than anarchism. I've never read Rand, but I'm willing to make a blind false assumption or two, if this helps make my point. Won't someone please set me straight?
Quote from Rearden Metal:
Why are you presenting irrelevant anti-anarchy arguments to Libertarians? Do you also make anti-segregationist arguments to moderate Republicans?
Wrong address, dude.
Key tenets of the Libertarian Party platform include the following:
* Adoption of laissez-faire principles which will result in the complete separation of state and economics. This will include, among other things, enormous reduction in taxation, privatization of Social Security and welfare (for both individuals and companies), elimination of business regulation, abolition of labor regulations such as the minimum wage and the cessation of government interference in foreign trade.
* Protection of property rights.
* Minimal government bureaucracy. The Libertarian Party states that the government's responsibilities should be limited to the protection of individual rights from the initiation of force and fraud with a military, police force, and court system.
* Strong civil liberties positions, including privacy protections, freedom of speech, freedom of association, and sexual freedom.
* Support for the unrestricted right to the means of self-defense (such as gun rights, the right to carry mace or pepper spray, etc).
* Abolition of laws against victimless crimes (prostitution, driving without a seatbelt, use of controlled substances, etc.).
* Opposition to conscription.
* A foreign policy of free trade and non-interventionism.
Libertarians state that their platform follows from consistent application of the principle of mutual respect for rights, and the liberty of exercise thereof, and thus are deeply supportive of the concept of individual liberty as a pre-condition for moral and stable societies. In their "Statement of Principles", they declare: "We hold that all individuals have the right to exercise sole dominion over their own lives, and have the right to live in whatever manner they choose, so long as they do not forcibly interfere with the equal right of others to live in whatever manner they choose."
