Here is a video of Rorion Gracie fighting yet another Hapkido instructor
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RawPYGzYOQ
Please explain:
1) Why he didnt just wrist lock Rorion
2) Why reaching for Rorions groin failed
answer: Because the crap doesnt work and they would know it if they spent lots of time practicing realistically instead of doing an eye scratch kata 10,000 times
Ive had friends try to tell me the same stuff. I offer to fight them using purely submissions and no striking and they can do ANYTHING they want to, ANYTHING.
It always ends quickly and they never get a chance to go for the groin, or wrist lock, or throat strike, or any other nonsense. Why? Because they are taken down, their back is taken and a choke applied before they can even consider any of the above. Or I simply pull them into an arm lock in 2 seconds, its trivial. If you dont practice it every week against resisting opponents, it doesnt work, and if you did, you would quickly realize these techniques are not all that effective when someone is trying to take your head off or knowing jiu jitsu.
I would love to see a hapkido/aikido guy fight a muay thai fighter, in a bare knuckle match. There would be no eye gouging, scratching or groin/throat strikes. There would only be a guy being sent to the hospital who was a bag of bloody bones. You would never get close enough before you were beaten to a pulp to use any of those "deadly" techniques.
Im glad this kung fu theatre mythology has finally been shattered, although many people still believe some of the nonsense with no evidence to back it up.

Quote from Gringinho:
Grabbing one wrist and with the other breaking a finger is not that difficult... some BJJs and other grapplers, wrestlers, Judo, Sambo, farm hand - whatever person can have very strong grip which is difficult to break lose, especially on the ground with limited movement.
Also, Hapkido is much better at wrist control than pure grappling is. Hapkido makes extensively use of it, like Aikido - only more linear and direct movements.
