Trading in Brazil?

Answers:
1. Go with taxi in the beginning. Driving in the big cities here is really boring and different in the beginning, and can be dangerous. In São Paulo, it is estimated that about 5000 hi-jackings of cars (together with the driver) is done every year. Learn and then get a car. Taxis are cheap and cost like 3-4 dollar per 10 km.

2. 3-4 star hotel or apartment hotel about 500-750 dollar per month if you stay long term and negotiate price.

3. Eaiting outside is cheap. A BigMac is about 2.5 dollar. A beer about 0.6 dollar.

4. Anytime, but depends definitely on where you are going. Brazil is HUGE. Take a look at the map and compare it to the U.S. In winter-time the temperature between south and north can be something like 40 degrees celsius.

5. I would say safe if you have experience from other 3rd world countries but tourists are easy targets and robbed and killed. This happens all the time. Dress down, don't wear expensive jewellery, watches etc and mix in with the locals in terms of clothes etc. And learn the language!!!

6. No, it is not necessary to speak Portuguese, but if you want anything else but prostitutes it is definitely a pre-req!

Take care and have fun!

Thanks for info Given. I think still Brazil needs to work hard
to compete in Tourism industry. I will be Comparing Thailand
VS brazil in response to "Richie90" and intersted someone to
convince me why brazil can be a better distination.

Anyone working on the field of Investment in Brazil or South America? I am from Europe and looking for interesting contacts.

Spaceman and Nanatrader and all others ...thanks for your replies.

Nana: I am only interested in taking my desktop box with me ( without my 4 monitors) I will buy 4 LCD's there. So I wonder . if customs will charge for the box?

Nana: What the price/comfort/trading comparisions between Thailand and Brazil?

Well, as with all other countries that i know, taking one unit
souldn't be taxed for indivitual use for a longterm stay. I
have not been to brazil so i can't 100% confirm. You won't
have that Problem with Thailand for sure.

Regards to your second question, i will try to give some in-depth
info with regards to differnet intersts:

Food:
-Any fast food meal for around $2 and any beer for around $1,
Thai meal for around 1-2$.
-Foods are sold everywhere on the outdoor stall on streets.
-there are more than 1000 variety of thai Dishes and fruits alone.
-Chinese, japanese, italian, Arabic,...foods every corner.
Btw not much interst in american franchise foods among tourist.

-Tourism and safty:
Thailand has around 11 Million toursit arrival every year mostly
from western countries. Thai peolpe never rob and kill you, but
treat you like a Boss. (they rob your money in respected ways).
over 3 million forigners are leaving in thailand mostly bachelores.

-Transportation and infurstrature:
2nd most car traffic conjacted city in world, so i think it's not
adviceable and comfortable to drive your own car.
9 miles taxi ride will cost you 2$. You can use under ground
metro, Air train station, and paid express ways. Bangkok is
ranked 6th city in the world for tall highrises.

-People:
Officialy 65 million with another 20 million bordering countries.
Bangkok with urban is 20 million. Peolpe are extremly friendly
form outside (god knows what's from inside). 90% budha, 10%
muslims.

- Entertainment:
some peolpe come to Visit historical sights, Shopping, resorts
that look like paradise, and legandry sexlife. Bangkok city
doesn't have beaches. Pattaya is nearest attraction, and
pukhet, kou saumai, krapi has most beautifull resorts, and
chaingmai has reputation for best standard for living, but
might feel little lonely, because lake of forigners. (70% in
Bangkok alone)

-Climate:
Summer: April-July 28-37 celcious
winter: Agust-Oct 20-28 celcious raining most days
spring: Nov- Feb most pleasent climate

-Language:
it's Thai. Peolpe don't expect you to speak thai, and will be
surprised if you do. english is widely understood. so no
language problem.

- for Daytrading bussiness:
you can lease apartment for for even 4-6 monthes and cost
you 250$ only. Net cafes are everycorner.
I trade from furnished apartment (hotel) for $500 and extra
70$ for ready in-room DSL with damn fast speed you need.
I take my laptop and a desktop with 2 LCDS with me always.

:) No worries. I think like this: if you haven't figured it out why you should go to Brazil instead of Thailand you have some things to work on :). I have been to both places. Let me ask you this. What are your main reason for travelling? Calm Beaches for photos? Definitely Thailand. Surfing beaches? Definetely Brazil. Old history, museums etc? Both but in different ways. Looking for wonderful nature and variety. Brazil. Warm and interesting culture? Definitely Brazil. Women? Do you prefer Asians or South Americans? Thailand wouldn't be EVEN an option for me. But then again, taste is all personal. Furthermore, the tourism I find in Thailand is the explored one. If you want to find a different track I know what I would choose. But then again, this is my taste.

:):) :)

Quote from Cutten:

You have to remember, Brazil like most of Latin America (except Chile) is run by a grasping leftist political class who don't know the first thing about how to achieve progress in wealth or living standards. These are countries that can't even provide basic law and order, food and shelter for a large proportion of the population, and who confiscate foreign capital by the billions when their economically illiterate policies send them into yet another financial crisis. Don't expect their policies on attracting tourist money or foreign business to make any sense.

I am almost sure you are joking, but just in case...

Do not forget most of Latin America has been run for decades by military juntas usually backed by the USA.

Also, do not forget that the same countries have been robbed and spoiled in the colonial period of their history. I am talking about centuries...

This is more likely to explain the origin of the problems they actually encounter, rather than their (supposedly) "leftist political class".

Aradiel,
It has always been a desire of mine to visit, live, trade in a couple or more foreign countries before I get too old and not be able to do it. To experience different cultures and learn new languages.
What have been your experiences in Brazil in the last 21 years?

Luv the pinapples from Thailand;
and the deep respect they have for elephants in Asia.

Have done enough business in Argentina /Uruguay , thru San Paulo Brazil to make a few comments.

There are many good reasons why car insurance is so high in SA;

but enjoyed the friendly Argentina people there and yes spanish /english pace is slower , except city driving.

Argentina used to be one of most prosperous nations;
still much much safer overall than USA & they deeply, care & respect North Americans.
