Trading from a Cruise Ship?

...

I work at RCL (but actually in one of their sub-companies). by the way I truly believe in that great company.. I bought it when it was 20 haha...
Although I have not, nor do I plan to, take a cruise I agree with you that RCL is a good/great one. Good luck both with them and trading but find it hard to believe the trading part, from a cruise ship anyway, will be successful long term. Then again who knows.

Thank you, appreciated. I take day trading as a side hassle, I don't rely my whole future on that...

Writing options would mess him up even more than simple uncovered calls, no?

Isn't writing naked calls still writing options lol?.. There was a time where swing trading was advised prior to day trading to learn how the market moves and practice risk management and patience. Basically set limit prices on the stock that you want to find a bottom (or set breakout prices). Writing naked calls within reasonable risk parameters is technically the same thing if price falls to that point, with the bonus of acquiring a premium. If a stock never breaks the price then cool, free income. If the stock breaks the price point in free fall - well this was going to happen anyway setting a limit price on swing trading. Maybe buying power gets reduced a tad until he can offload the stock. Not really a big deal.

It seems most successful traders or investors eventually learn options. I think it's better to learn them sooner than later for a lot of reasons. Watching the market for 30min a day and making decisions within a short time frame without much knowledge/exp prior sounds like burning money. I also doubt his internet speed will be as good as he says.

Writing an option is selling one.

His example was not writing a call (selling a call), his was buying a call (Buying a call someone else wrote)

And pardon me on the terminology. I thought buying a call with no hedge was considered "uncovered". I think I see my error in the way I phrased it. You options guys are crazy.

Hey everyone,

As many people did during the COVID crisis, I've found myself temporary jobless and taught myself day trading, and it's going pretty well so far.

So, you might guess by the headline, I'm working on a cruise ship where I have my own office with internet connection, but I'm quite worried the internet speed wont be enough.

Anybody here with any experience by any chance? haha...

My average trade duration is 1-2 min, so I'm trading fast.

The internet is working via satellite, with 5mbps or so.. not sure about the ping...

Thank you!

my suggestion :

do anything EXCEPT day trading!!!
it takes many years or even decades to learn to day trade.

use internet to watch movies, porn, play games ... anything but day trading

I don't know if someone else already said this, but one option is to run a VPS (virtual private server) in an NYC or Chicago location, and connect via Remote Desktop to it. Depending on how much data flows through your trading software, it might be faster to do this -- your ship => VPS connection would only need to transfer the remote desktop data, while the landside VPS handles all the trading data.

Thank you!

Don't judge please. I have some experience from back then, and now I got back to it. I've been doing this now for 3 months (your math calculation is quite lacking) and with a success rate of 85% consistently with a solid trading plan, sitting at home 12 hours a day infront of the computer and reading and practicing as much as I can so I trust my knowledge and abilities. And I never said I'm an excellent trader nor I decided to leave my job, I just asked a simple question about speed on a cruise ship, so these kind of comments are really negative and arrogant.

Your negativity and obsession to bash me here is really not clear to me.

What the hell is wrong with you man? Is there anything specific I said that made you become so hostile? Did you lose some money on the market today and you put all of your anger on a random guy?
Ignore S2007

He is upset and annoyed the stock market is not crashing to $0.00 as he has been hoping for the past 4 months. He been pushing stock market crash the past 4 months and miss the ride up.

He Probably not making any money trading as well. So ignore him and all the other hating clowns here.

You are doing well. Keep studying, keep practicing, and monitor your risk per trade.

Your internet connection is fine. Please keep your broker phone number handy incase your connection drops.

When you enter a position always use a stop loss order incase internet connection drops.

Keep on grinding man.
