Trading from a Cruise Ship?

Hey everyone,

As many people did during the COVID crisis, I've found myself temporary jobless and taught myself day trading, and it's going pretty well so far.

So, you might guess by the headline, I'm working on a cruise ship where I have my own office with internet connection, but I'm quite worried the internet speed wont be enough.

Anybody here with any experience by any chance? haha...

My average trade duration is 1-2 min, so I'm trading fast.

The internet is working via satellite, with 5mbps or so.. not sure about the ping...

Assuming you are using windows, go to a command prompt and type "tracert (insert your exchange domain name here)".

That will tell you all you need to know, unless you are a HFT.

Yes yes yes. Thats right. Only 1 way up.... I know 6 brand new people who have opened accounts the last 3 months. 6 people who never knew what the fu×k a stock was and a few people who have asked me how to open up a stock trading account. This is just proving we are back in that era of 1999, but as they always say, this time its different.

Don't judge please. I have some experience from back then, and now I got back to it. I've been doing this now for 3 months (your math calculation is quite lacking) and with a success rate of 85% consistently with a solid trading plan, sitting at home 12 hours a day infront of the computer and reading and practicing as much as I can so I trust my knowledge and abilities. And I never said I'm an excellent trader nor I decided to leave my job, I just asked a simple question about speed on a cruise ship, so these kind of comments are really negative and arrogant.


Your negativity and obsession to bash me here is really not clear to me.

What the hell is wrong with you man? Is there anything specific I said that made you become so hostile? Did you lose some money on the market today and you put all of your anger on a random guy?

You did not discuss what speed you're getting. Just as odd, a contradiction, you stated you're temporary jobless but you're working on a cruise ship.

It's as if you're stating you lost your job but stuck on a cruise ship and decided to do day trading and doing pretty well so far.
  • You working on a cruise ship or not ?
  • You stated you're doing pretty well so far...is that from a cruise ship ?
You stated 5mbps via Satellite. Call your broker / technical department of your trade execution platform to tell them your speed and you're trading from a cruise ship. They're the ones that will tell you if the speed is adequate...meets the minimum requirements for the trading platform.

I'm on a forced vacation, not on a cruise ship. I was supposed to have a contract but got canceled due to the crisis, that's all.

And that's the reason I'm asking, because I'm not on a ship right now, and I was wondering if it's even possible to do so.
