Trading and Dating

Quote from coolweb:

strange...
I always thought saying I was a trader was one of the most elite professions in the world and I still do.

Which planet are some of you guys on?

Used to be. Now it's watered down by those daytrading losers scalping for pennies here and there. When you say trader to those not in the know, they'll usually assume you are a daytrader.

That's strange "daytrading losers, scalping for pennies" huh.....That's what actual trading is. What do you do work for a bank and fill market orders for a living. Pal that's not trading is just glorified babysitting.

A wise man told me once..

Marry a farmers daugther, they know about hard work, and dont mind getting dirty. Stay away from little rich girls who want mommy and daddies life style the day she gets married...

But most farm girls are homely... :(

Those are called daytrader wannabes... real daytraders scalp at the floor or through corporate accounts. These guys have a much better cost structure, because they move very large volumes {several million shares a day}... It´s just a matter of scale economies.

Quote from jackson1234:

I've been trading for a living for 5 years now, make a good income and am pretty consistent. My question to all other pro-traders is how do you fare in the dating world when you tell them what you do for a living?

The women in my age group (28-33) are mostly looking to settle down and find someone to have kids with. When I tell them I'm a trader I'm sure a lot immediately think gambler/high risk/unreliable. If asked to explain it further it probably sounds worse as I'm sure I confuse them more as most have never heard of futures trading.

I would rather be honest but that seems to be reducing my success rate, so time to get a little creative. I'm not looking to settle down right now, just get more action than I have been getting lately, so if it necessitates being a little devious and telling them what they want to hear, so be it.

So, what are your suggestions for describing my job to make it sound more desirable? I am thinking of "investor", and if asked for details say I invest my own money in different financial markets. Sounds more conservative. Also thought of "fund manager" but that one gets tricky when asked about clients.

I don't understand why you'd have to lie...maybe i'm not a typical female but when i hear trader my trail of thoughts work like this:

Trading for a living --> successful, smart, doesn’t have a boss and is financially stable.

But actually if your only intention is to get laid, then yea, just tell her whatever she wants to hear. good luck!

Just tell the prospective women you have no intention of being monogamous and will be dating other people. Anyone who calls you back after that won't care what you do for a living.
