If the election were decided on popular vote, you would see candidates visit 5 or 6 states total.
The thing that seldom is mentioned is that not many people thought that Trump would be elected so there is/was a massive number of republican voters who did not bother to show up to vote for him because "everyone knew that hillary was going to win." Somehow, people only talk about the hillary voters who did not show up "because everyone knew that hillary was going to win."
Not like that this time around. Dem voters know that they need to show up. But so do pubs. The "Trump can never win" argument loses some steam when he is running for re-election.
All you did with that map is prove my point that candidates ignore large portions of the country, they would otherwise have to compete in if it was a popular vote system.

wow... so the polls we saw throughout the polling season with double digit leads for hillary may have done what they were intended to do... depress the Trump vote... (vote more than they suppressed the Clinton vote.)

That makes sense.
The real question here is if Trump has expanded his voter base since he has been in office.
There is a large number of voters in the HS or less cohort Trump appeals to but registration has not seen any significant jump since he is in office. Meaning his success with this cohort has not transitioned to the greater party. As was seen in the past two cycles.
The same thing happened with Obama but you saw the voter registration numbers go up with minorities before his re-election. This will be an indicator for Trump, who is registering.
I'm a bit surprised at the number of times Trump visited Colorado.... our being California's "mini -Me" and all.

Trump went to Maine four times to get one electoral college vote in the very northern part of the state. (electoral college votes are divided up by congressional district in Maine, there is one more in the southern part which he ceded to the dems from the beginning and did not campaign there.).
