Thought for the day............

Quote from stonedinvestor:

Oh my god it's happening. It's actually happening I'm so scared. I got in touch with an auction house the last one went for $32,000 holy smokes easy stoney easy that one was in great condition yours has a big stain ON THE BACK not the front but over the Warhol signature. Yea Ac I got a freakin' real one I worked at the studio for a bun ch of years and never got squat but a small paycheck and a great time. I became great friends with the vid director there and then I paid to get him into Alcohol treatment and he gave me the pic which is inscribed to him. I really don't know how any of this works and it has to be authenticated by the foundation I know it's real and I know it's mine but proof is in the eye of the beholder.... what's that about possession being 9/10's ?????? Oh man. I'm going with a $15 to TWENTY GRAND estimate and just really hoping the art market holds up until December.... OH please!!!! This would take care of my whole kitchen in one swoop and I might get a coffee table out of it and a weekend in Puerto Plata. All from a dusty envelope under my bed.... fingers crossed.... ~stoney

Well, i read dennis hopper bought the first soup can picture, went for $20 mill, of which his wife got the lot. Ouch.

Just an idea, but if you want top dollar for this, (given its presumably not pristine condition) that sort of history is what will do it.
Your not talking about art, your talking about a celebrity cult-Warhol's coffee mug could get $20k, you know?
You need to beat up that lineage, your (and the pics) direct association with warhol/studio etc, its not "just" a print, its a story, a direct connection to that boomers bohemia.
That should more than negate any stain, for that matter, if warhol spilled coke on it (cola) and put the stain there, you could be looking at ten times that, who knows.

This was given to his vid director, then onto you? Thats history, and should be worth a premium.

Um, i should point out, as you alluded, said vid director may not be so happy with your decision to sell said object to the highest bidder, entirely so you can get a new kitchen , coffee table and vacation.

Gee, i thought i was shallow, and probably am, but-

If they are still alive, its only the right thing to do to get together and work on a solid "providence" for this piece, maybe split the diff, because his input is critical to the "story" of it, and could well double its value after all.

I figure, another 5 years though, could double it.

Like i said, this isn't about art, you could have a pair of Britney's knickers, the value is perceived-and where they might have been, and hung out with (er, given the britney gash photos, i already know some may consider this bad taste) is paramount, otherwise its just a pair of used knickers, at the end of the day.

I'm sure that wasn't the best way of putting it, but there you go.

Ac I should of mentioned that the vid director is dead now unfortunately.

Also just getting this pic to auction house is going to cost quite a bit of dollars, you can't just stick it in the mail and say "please don't fold! "

There was some human urine flying around these prints in the old days- that would of ruined the signature on the back for sure and eaten away at the front, I'm fairly sure it's an iced cappuccino on there and that $1.50 cent drink it probably going to subtract $10,000 from the sale price.

Still we can't leave these auctions to hedge fund owners and Russians alone... all I need is two people to agree they both need this beautiful green $ sign print and then it's off to the races.

Oh, yeah i may have seen that on a doco or something. not many of his contemporaries/hangers on/staff are alive, i gather, obviously you are an exception.

Weeeell, what are you gonna do, wait 15 years for the right buyer, or maybe get a kitchen (?a kitchen?) now, you know.

Tough choice, i know well enough to know your better off waiting, financially, but your not a spring chicken either, so it becomes difficult.

The olympics-

The "great pall of china", "greyjing"
:D

My odds, are that at least one athlete will fail to complete their event due to smog, throughout the course of these games.

The marathon is the obvious contender, as are any long distance event-the decathlon may well be in the firing line too, due to simply lingering around and absorbing the smog.

Well, put me in a footrace against some thoroughbreds and give me long odds, the smog factor hasnt really eventuated thus far, it seems.
No wonder, the streets look deserted, i guess the curfews or whatever they have done did the trick.

Camera arrived, went with the panasonic lumix fz-18, seems impressive-but light, geez, feels like i could jab it with a pin and it might deflate. Still, light is good.

Bolt to win the 200m tonight, now unless he falls over and breaks a leg, surely that's a cert. Or, collapses half way through from smog-gotta be a winner here sooner or later:D
i hope he wins, and equally, that he isn't doped up to the eyeballs.

Yeah, BABY, did i call that, or did i NOT?

Great stuff, Jamaica. Usain, or whatever the hell his name is "Bolt", great, great run.

Did i mention, i called it? Yeah, BABY.

Yep, what i said.

Well-great olympics.

I enjoyed a lot of it, got over the original antipathy to the communist style format, and just liked watching european handball, table tennis, fantastic.

It reminds me, however, why i prefer the winter olympics.

If a yeti got in a fight with a chupacubra, and it was witnessed by the loch ness monster-how would they get it to the public?

It seems none of these monsters are to tech savvy.
