This is the end. We are witnessing collapse of the global economy

So much for socialized medicine. Despite all the shortcomings of the Administration to combat this virus, I am surprised that our death rate is not higher. People in Italy were actually following directions unlike us, and yet their death rate is through the roof. In spite of the fact our numbers rise, I wonder if the death rate will spike. We have had 2010 death with 113K cases or <2%.

I am betting there will be a huge spike. Watch this video on the parameters of the SIR model, which considers social distancing, neighborhood interaction, neighborhood size, clustering locations, quarantine probabilities, and rule violation probabilities. This affects the R_0 value. The Spanish Flu R_0 = 2, they estimate Corona is R_0 ~ 4.

we'll have 2k/day by next week.....it's going to be a complete and utter shit show

Three words: Martial Law Needed.

4 to 6 weeks. No one goes anywhere or they get arrested or shot. Close the markets. Shut everything down and I mean everything but hospitals..pharmaceuticals.

The military and only the military can operate with speed and precision. The civil gov cannot and all they can do is yap and yap about social distancing..etc. Democratic principles cannot get the public thru this. Only an autocratic gov can get us thru this ...one that dishes out the orders and expect them to be obeyed or else.....

When the house is burning down the fire chief doesn’t call for a vote on what to do.

never gonna happen...as much as people fear this pandemic, a despot exerting martial law is way more frightening.

Are South Korea and Taiwan that autocratic?
You make a valid point. Maybe, I should have said an autocratic leader. But our very system will buck that. So, yes WE probably need a temporary autocratic gov.

Much of the difference is cultural. Taiwan’s people FOLLOW the gov policies. Americans are too independent and in your face “you ain’t gonna tell me what to do”.

“Taiwan Armed with transparent and sufficient information on the COVID-19 epidemic, Taiwanese people actively follow the government’s policies and take actions to curb the spread of virus individually by washing hands and wearing masks. Therefore, even though the self-ruled island is very close to China, the number of infection cases in Taiwan is still low (40 cases, as of Sunday) compared to neighboring countries like South Korea (4,212 cases as of Monday) and Japan (233 cases as of Sunday, excluding the cases aboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship).”

I realize the article somewhat argues against what I am saying. But I think the cultural aspect of obedience is what helps Taiwan through this in a democratic setting. We Americans just get on TV and fight and argue and blame the present government for the spread of the virus. Just take a cursory trip to the supermarket or Walmarts and see who is obeying the government. Even some churches are rebelling. Arguing nobody is gonna take away my religious freedom. This is not about that at all. It is about survival as a nation and a people.

Sorry to say, but yes, we need martial law.

You are right. It probably won’t happen but it is the fastest and most sure way to stop this. Most likely, we will piss around and vote and pass blame and die. Then the survivors will vote in a democrat if any are left and blame the republicans and Mr T.

I'm going to be watching the state of Washington very closely. Some news articles say it's leveling off, but I don't see why they make that claim when they have new daily highs every day.

But that's where it started in the USA, so good place to look.

In any event, it didn't get completely crazy there (yet?) so that's hope.

I disagree.

Notice how nobody gives a rat's ass about Joe Biden or anything he says?

Maybe if Trump was running against Cuomo, it would be a close race.

South Korea could enact such

The global number of cases on March 6, 2020 is the now the of cases by which grow every 24 hours. By the SIR model, the minimum number of cases we can have assuming a 17% infection probability, is 1,143,356. I posited 17% because we were at 15% on March 6. The global number of cases is now 571,678. This means the infection rate has increased. If we had enacted what we were supposed to, and people followed the rules, the maximum cases within 61 days from that point would have 411,000. If we do nothing like we have been, the global number of cases will reach 105,873,570.

But we're not doing nothing.

There are curfews, lockdowns, closures practically everywhere.

Joe Biden showed no leadership in this crisis. It will be Trump's 2nd term.

You missed many key points. Those lockdowns are non enforceable as yet. People are ignoring them. Traffic looks like a normal summer day. Idiots are still swarming the beaches, which is why California has to close many beaches to prevent the idiots from swarming by the 10s of 1000s.

Human disobey. If we were successful in quarantining 90% of the infected and 90% of the people obeyed the order and practiced social distancing the entire time, it would stretch the curve out twice as long as if 100% followed the rules, (which, lets face it, will never happen).

I bid you good luck on your optimistic beliefs.

Why is Biden's leadership necessary? Last I checked he is not president. Whether or not Trump will have a second term remains to be seen. A fish rots from the head down. If people are not showing leadership, it is the fault of the leader.
