John Kasich Tries To Reach Out To Latinos, Insults Them Instead

Even when talking about the importance of Latino outreach, GOP presidential candidates seem to have a way of creating problems for themselves.

Republican hopeful John Kasich said Thursday that Latinos are good people who should vote for the GOP -- but then, he seemed to draw on the stereotype that many of them are hotel maids.

"I look at our friends in the Latino community as people that ought to be voting Republican," the Ohio governor said at a campaign event, according to The Columbus Dispatch. "I mean, they're very strong family. We could all learn a little from them about the importance of family, couldn't we? Because they are great, they are God-fearing, hard-working folks. And a lot of them do jobs that they're willing to do."

"That's why, in a hotel, you leave a little tip, you know?"

He went on to talk about a hotel maid he met on a trip to Los Angeles, who wrote him a note saying, "I really want you to know that I care about your stay," according to the Los Angeles Times.

"Is that just the greatest thing?" he continued. "So, you know, we can learn a lot and she's Hispanic, 'cause I didn't know it at the time, but I met her in the hallway -- asked her if I could get a little more soap."

People are seriously suggesting that Trump doesn't know how to negotiate or close a deal? I guess he just rose to the top of a viciously competitive business through good luck? People will say his father staked him. so what? I've known plenty of rich kids who failed miserably despite family help.

Trump says he'll make great deals for the USA because he is a successful businessman. There's no way of knowing that. He has no record of doing deals on behalf of the American public. If you trust him on face value, vote for him. Give him your money and support. Political realities differ from those of business. Often, elected officials have to act, pass legislation, and make deals. In business, you often have a choice. If a deals sucks, you can walk away. In the political realm, things are different. You can't just walk away (you can, but you will be out of a job soon) People in legislative and executive branches have to come to an accommodation to fund budgets, run schools, collect the garbage, maintain defense, operate police and fire, etc. And that's how it should be. Public service requires service and acting in the public interest. Business doesn't. Business serves itself. Business can or cannot elect to act in the public interest, as its primary concern is self interest. It's a dichotomy we celebrate. Government is not business and business is not government. Were government run as business, then it would soak business like crazy. It's bad enough that business has outsize influence on public policy. We should be wary of electing the foxes to sit inside the hen house

Well said. We also have an indication with the track record of previous presidents who came from business: it's not good.

The US has come out on the short end of every deal Obama has negotiated. It's hard to know if that is because of epic incompetency or because he has an agenda that is hostile to our interests.

Businessmen can and do walk away from deals. Pols, like John Kerry and Obama, have different incentives, like no one ever got a Nobel Peace Prize for walking away from a bad deal. Maybe we'd be better off with a guy with street smarts whose entire ego is based on being a great dealmaker, not pandering to foreign elites or the media.

A recent example, of course, is GWB, who also didn't create value. His investors got cents on the dollar, but got compensated due to tax loopholes.

The book was co-written by Tony Schwartz. Tony wrote most of the book based on interviewing Trump over time. Trump updated Tony's draft before it was published.

To be fair neither author has ever tried to hide their collaboration or disagreed on their roles in creating this book.

Tony has co-written over a hundred books in the same manner with many other authors.

Yeah, but we both know Trump didn't sit down and put pen to paper for any of it. He just talked. The other guy listened to the jumble of hyperbole and took notes until his ears bled out and then went into a dark corner somewhere where he put it all into a sausage machine, and out popped the book. And then Trump put his name on it. A licensing deal, you might say.

If you connect the dots, and if your brain can accept the obvious in spite of you're not liking the conclusion (and "this is America, it can't possibly be")... it's OBVIOUS!!

The one common thread that ties all of Obama's decisions and policies.... "each choice he makes harms America... and he's doing it on purpose!" Adding to the tragedy... CONGRESS AND THE SCOTUS ARE LETTING HIM GET AWAY WITH IT!
