Define your understanding of TA before others join and discuss your question over 20 pages only to have one guy/gal then ask what your definition of TA is 
Agreed. The legend himself, Paul Tudor Jones, even says that TA made him half his fortune.
He said that many years ago. Since then his chief TA guy is no longer with PTJ and I'll bet he would no longer say such things. No one but stay at home moms support pure TA as a viable trading tool nowadays. surf

Hey, I only asked because he gave this long list of non-TA stuff that included 2 items that are typically regarded as TA.

If you and the doji etc would listen rather than preach your book based common wisdom maybe you would survive the long term. Otherwise, I am short your and the others longevity. surf
Yes, my definition of TA is every kind of analysis that derives from price and/or volume (as opposed to fundamental analysis), i.e. also price action, market profile, statistical analysis, etc.
However, some people define TA only as the classical TA a la Edwards/Magee with chart patterns (incl. measurement rules!), trend lines, S/R. For them, price action and market profile and the like are totally different categories.
In the end it's irrelevant how you label it. But it makes sense to explain ones definition before starting the discussion.
PS: Btw, there was also a lively discussion with M. Covel 1 or 2 days ago on his facebook page re. "predictive" TA. I think he has a narrow definition of TA (i.e. classical TA like described above) as he said that trend following does not rely on TA.
