I agree but they are relatively few, and knowing "theory" can certainly help even them.There are 2 types of musicians, natural talent with perfect pitch & the rest, naturals don't need any tutoring or theory.

Never-the-less, understanding music theory or fact greatly enhances your ability to understand and express.

I have 40 years, understanding permutations of modal and chordal possibilities can help regardless of natural talent. BTW, I stand in awe of the "naturals".Theory won't benefit them much due to perfect pitch, theory is really for the ones that struggle to distinguish pitch. I rubbed shoulders with some of those guys, they were really incredible, all were brilliant in improvisational ability, can't learn that, you could learn to play all sorts of riffs, but that's where it will end really.
Anyhow, I have over 20+ years in music, studied modern music/jazz, so speak from experience.
