The rich aren't paying their fair share. They're paying almost everyone's share

New CBO study shows that ‘the rich’ don’t just pay their ‘fair share,’ they pay almost everybody’s share

The charts don't lie. The 'rich don't pay their fair share' meme is nothing but balderdash.

Which is why it's like fingernails on a blackboard to have to listen to people like Warren Buffett say things like:

Warren Buffett calls for higher taxes for US super-rich
• 'Mega-rich get extraordinary tax breaks'
• Investor says move needed to tackle US debts
http://www.theguardian.com/business/2011/aug/15/warren-buffett-higher-taxes-super-rich

So a person would think Buffett thinks that people like himself should pay more.

But if you'd like to see how Buffett really regards the paying of taxes himself, and his herculean ability to find ways to get out of them, read this link. Enlightening on many, many levels.

Yet I've never heard of a single person wanting to go from the highest quintile to the lowest because their taxes were too high. Just sayin'. It's not the tax amount I pay that concerns me. It's the way our criminally corrupt government uses/steals that money which is the real problem.

Fortunately, there are mechanisms in place for us to change that.

But in order to take advantage of them, we must vote.

Progressive income taxes are immoral... and anti-American within the spirit of our Constitution.

The only fair tax is a "flat tax". Under a flat tax system, the rich would pay more because of earning more, but they should not pay "proportionally more" in the land of "all men are created equal".

Our laws don't allow us to discriminate against race, gender, religion, sexual preference, and many other categories... but we do discriminate against income. Hypocrisy.

Your previous suggestion, 13% for all, would be a massive tax increase on the poor, would reduce aggregate demand further (i.e., everyone's income), and would tank the economy.
