THE REAL REASON THE AMERICAN DREAM IS UNRAVELING

The real reason the American dream has unraveled is because the D.C. whores who run this country have stacked everything in their favor.
That's a handful of people...then there's the rest of us.
If we had this, many more subjects of this country would have a far better life:

1. Term limits.
2. Abolition of the IRS.
3. Balanced budget amendment.
4. Campaign finance reform.

These four items would make a world of difference for the average person here.
THE WHORES ARE LOOKING OUT FOR THEMSELVES; NOT FOR YOU.

Anyway... the real reason the dream, per se, is dying is because we've let the naturally gifted and their lucky progeny soar too high and for too long (once again), and they're using government to protect their privilege. This reduces the overall odds anyone of less fortunate birth will be upwardly mobile.

I don't know about the "naturally gifted" part. Most often it's the first generation that's gifted and whatever they earn and accumulate is passed on to succeeding generations, which either hoard it or crap it all away. If estate taxes were as draconian as they used to be, each generation would have to build and feather its own nest. This is not to say the money would have to go to the government. There are all sorts of options, and there are at least a few of the wealthy that use those options rather than give everything to their heirs. But not nearly enough.

And yet when I logged in it was taotaotaotaotaotaotao.

Which is different from maxmaxmaxmax only in terms of quantity.

Whatever keeps you busy.

If you're referring to my posting activity, I don't have the luxury - what with a child and wife - to be up all hours of the day and night spacing my posts evenly like you. I log on in the morning and have some quiet time, and respond to what I see fit.

You can write me a ticket if that violates your posting authority. I promise I'll make sure to pay it...someday.

you sure the American Dream is unravelling? Any kid can graduate from high school and get a job at a McDonalds or the local c store or grocery store, and if he shows up on time and is willing to work when called in will soon have enough money for a car and a house. If he makes the mistake of getting married, at first he will enjoy two incomes, but then not only the American, but all his dreams (especially the Porsche) will unravel. It's been that way since the beginning of time.

If only any of it were worth reading . . .

Yeah, sorry about that. I prefer not to spend time starting thread after thread with articles from alternet, salon, slate, etc. The usual rags. If you like the tabloids, you certainly won't like my stuff.

Have you been in your house since 1980?

when I quit trading I just floated around for a while. I worked in a factory for 6 months. I didn't really need the money for anything other than beer and cigarettes. I just wanted to see what it was like to have a real job. Hard work man, very physical, but cheaper than joining an exercise club. I was only making $10/hr, but every supervisor had a nice car and owned a house in one of the nearby housing developments. So the American Dream was still alive for them and would have been for me if I just showed up on time every day and acted like I cared.

Not sure who these people are claiming the American Dream is gone. Sounds like a bunch of complaining whiners to me. The American Dream was always hard and there was always something screwing it up. For many, that four year stint in WWII didn't help, but the achievers always overcome.

IRS reform? That will be automatic when 1 and 4 are implemented. The IRS is just a creature of Congress. Animosity toward the IRS is misplaced.

A balanced budget amendment is insane, unless of course we suddenly become clairvoyant.

well now, a balanced budget for a family or a small business or especially a large business would be insane, no doubt, I agree. And at today's rates anybody that is not borrowing is insane. But the government? They aren't really a business or a family are they?

Your idea of government is similar to the Association of Basketball Referees getting together and betting on the Final Four.
