The products of Public Education, Democrats on Parade

Harvard owes blacks considering a brutal slave owner helped build the school.

Republicans would love to change Harvards admission policy, another reason blacks should vote democrat.

Most "blacks" in America have 20-30% european DNA, most likely from their slave owners. Keep that in mind when you say stuff like this. Not all whites owned slaves, but the majority of blacks were descended from slave owners. Most blacks ancestors were the oppressors AND the oppressed. In my book, that cancels each other out. You don't get to pick which side of your family you want to recognize while ignoring the side you don't like and then demand things from people who weren't even part of it just because of their skin color.

None of the blacks alive today were slaves, none of the whites alive today owned slaves. We are many generations removed from anyone who can legitimately fit into either category. The history should be rightfully acknowledged but giving people benefits based on what their ancestors did 160 years ago is ridiculous.

Its really funny when you consider the democrat party is the party who wants to keep the issue alive and sow division in the county. They preach all this crap and are constantly virtue signaling but in reality they are the biggest racists. That same democrat party was the party of slavery. Maybe the Nazi party should start virtue signalling and accuse other people of being anti-Semites.

Interesting article - https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/pre...es-heres-why-the-whole-scandal-was-inevitable

Some highlights

Just being black quadruples your chances of admission to Harvard. The university claims that if race were not a factor, then the percentage of blacks at the school would fall to 0.6 percent, compared with the current 14 percent.

The University of Michigan in 2003 gave racial minorities 20 extra admission points; legacies got four extra points. A 1990 federal investigation of Harvard’s admission practices found that the SAT scores of legacies were 120 points above those of black students admitted.

On average, Asians admitted from 2010 to 2015 at Harvard outperformed admitted blacks on the SAT by 218 points (admitted whites outperformed admitted blacks by 193 points). Test scores and GPA that would give an Asian only a 25 percent chance of admission at Harvard would be a virtual admissions guarantee—95 percent—for a black student.

There also seems to be a double standard for Government benefits, where minorities or immigrants are far more likely to be awarded benefits than Whites.

Black kids are severely disadvantaged compared to white and Asian kids when it comes to K-12 grade education in this country so I have no problem and support the ones who have a legitimate shot at getting into Harvard or similar schools getting a slight advantage in the admission process.Blacks only make up 14% at Harvard. If the whiners who had the best private schools, tutors and admission prep services can't get into the other 86% of open slots thats thier problem.

It is not the same democrat party. The democrat party that was the party of slavery was the one that represented the confederate south. The current democrat party hasn't represented the confederate south in decades.

I hope for quality education for all. However, I do not support discrimation on the basis on race or sex. It is unjustifiable. There are plenty of children from other races that were brought up in poor neighborhoods and schools that never had the chance to go to Harvard because of their inability to meet entrance requirements. It seems demeaning in a way to say to a group of people of a particular race that you will lower standards because you need it.

It would not suprise me to find out that many of those minority students who went to Harvard were well connected politically. In addition, it is annoying to see attempts to minimize the difference in enterance requirements for different races. If the entrance requirements were almost the same, why couldn’t the minority applicant study a day or two, or whatever, to make up the difference? I wonder what Will Smith’s, Condoleeza Rice’s or Colin Powell’s opinion on this subject would be?

I agree.Sadly black people are heavily discriminated against in this country so I support affirmative action programs.

My hope is for effective affirmative action programs such as an effectively addressing substance abuse and ensuring quality public school education that adequately prepares students for being smart consumers, the job market, and or college. Money spent, within reason, on education is an investment, not an expense. A better society and robust economy is a return on that investment.

Another challenge to overcome is mistrust, justifiable or not, of our system. I fear many minorities do not even try, whether it is voting or investing in their personal development over fears they are just wasting their time in a system rigged against them. And yet, some minorities prosper. What are the differences between the successful and the unsuccessful who have started in simular circumstances? We need to improve the living environment to help people achieve better outcomes such as more effective substance abuse remediation and public schools as mentioned earlier.

It is my perception Trump has helped minorities more than any other President because of the increased access to high paying jobs such as trucking as a result of the sustained economic recovery. Never before have I’ve seen so many new minority and woman drivers in trucking. Good, high paying employment opportunities are empowering and can cause positive, long term cultural change. Want to give Obama some credit? Sure, go ahead. However we want to divide up the credit, let’s keep it going.

Trucking has had more jobs than applicants long before Trump came into office.Trucking companies have been offering free CDL training in exchange for signing a 1 year driving contract for over 20 years.

Republicans always want to cut education and job training spending, including Trump.Tax cuts for the rich is far more important to them.
