If the govt wants the people to perform the govt needs to cease playing politics start acting like its a crisis.



If our public officials don't provide us with transparent data and they have been very political in their application of their warnings.


Protestors
1. It was bullshit to not call out the protestors. That is when I sense there was significant change in public's behavior. Collectively many young people said... fuck these politicians.

Transparency

2. ICU beds is a very important stat and as those are rising we should be concerned. But, Positive Virus stats are hard to trust if officials are including multiple positive tests from the same people in the data. (whether the tests are antibody tests or retests for live virus)


If this is a crisis close the Borders.
3. For instance

In CA we have open borders and people are coming in from Mexico in very significant amounts with Covid to our hospitals. When these SOBs close the border... we may get control of this virus like the model countries who drove down the virus to very low levels without blanket shutdowns.


In short it will help when govt starts acting like its a crisis rather than just preaching it, so we can regain control.

The US, Brazil and Russia have made it on a list of countries whose nationals are indefinitely banned from entering the bloc. European officials said the ban "is an exercise of self-responsibility" amid global surges.

The European Union on Tuesday extended a ban on travelers from the United States and most other countries beyond July 1, citing epidemiological factors for the decision.

Over the past month, the US has seen its number of cases steadily rise after most states eased lockdown measures. A lack of interstate coordination and an uneven response from the federal government has contributed to several new outbreaks across the country.

Other countries on the list include Brazil, Russia and India, which have seen their number of positive cases surge in recent weeks. The US, Brazil, Russia and India are the countries with the highest number of confirmed cases in the world.

"This is not an exercise to be nice or unfriendly to other countries," Spanish Foreign Minister Arancha Gonzalez Laya told local radio station Cadena ahead of the list's publication. "This is an exercise of self-responsibility."

Approved for travel

Meanwhile, the EU has approved visits from Australia, Canada and Japan. Chinese travelers will be allowed to visit pending reciprocal access to China for EU visitors.


Other countries approved for EU travel include Algeria, Georgia, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia and Uruguay.

The countries were chosen based on certain criteria, including that the number of new cases over a 14-day period had to be "close to order below the EU average." The countries also needed to have a "stable or decreasing trend of new cases over this period."

The UK will be treated as part of the EU, according to the Council, until the end of the year. The UK currently has a mandatory quarantine period of 14 days for those traveling to the country. Other EU countries have withdrawn similar mandatory periods.

In due time

The list of permitted countries is technically a recommendation. According to the European Council, member states will have the final say in how the restrictions are eased for countries on the list.

"The authorities of the member states remain responsible for implementing the content of the recommendation," said the Council. "They may, in full transparency, lift only progressively travel restrictions towards countries listed."

The EU has kept a travel ban in place at its external borders since mid-March. The ban was extended to non-EU Schengen area member states, including Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.

The list of banned and permitted countries will be updated every 14 days to take into account progress or lack thereof, according to the Council.

Europe will have a better tourist summer than the U.S. The summer bookings in top tourist resort areas such as Spain are near the levels of last summer. Most of the tourists are from other EU countries. At least they won't have to worry about the highly infected Swedes showing up - who are still banned.

Ok, its a bet. Pick a few countries and lets look at tourism revenue at the end of the summer and compare. What countries are you going to go with?

If you think countries in Europe that have banned most of the world are going to be better off than Americans traveling in America (because they can't go anywhere else) then I'll take that challenge. Name your countries.

Keep in mind that most European resort tourism comes from other EU countries and not the rest of the world.

I will note that the bookings at traditional vacation resorts in the U.S. this summer are at 22% of what they were last year --- according to an article I read.
