The Opening Orders Thread

Is there any way to demo trade opening orders?
Or is this something that just can be "simulated" since it is up to actual fills?

What brokers (except prop) let you send Opening orders?

Stocks and Commodities did a 10 year (I believe) back test of the basic strategy, without adjustments for FV and news, etc. You might check their site: www.traders.com

Also, you can certainly come up with your own opening prices, see if you would have filled, see if the stock retraced, pretty simple to do. I think IB allows opening only orders.

3 fills / 10000 shares

1 long / 2 short / +372.00

- 1.01 / + .49 %

waited on leh and made a few cents only to watch it scream higher...

still a bit rusty after vacation...

2 fills, up $100 - I'm going to take the weekend to re-do my opening list - too many taken off, and I can't remember why on some of them, LOL.

I need to get to 100 or so I think, get things going a bit better. As I always say "adapt or die" - time to get with it.

Seems like I was right? Don Bright is adminiting that the strategy is not working so he has to increase number of stocks so other people will increase number of their stocks and so on and on. Brining stocks back to the list which he obviosuly took off for a reason, but now they are ok becasuse the strategy is dying.

Wish you the best don.

Can I use IB to "forward test" this strategy? I mean could my "demo fills" be compared to what they would have been in actual trading?

SwiftMike,

Your post is a great point for the newer traders reading these forums.

Good traders are constantly adjusting their strategies to the markets behavior as it changes. Losing traders tend to get stubborn and feel they don't need to improve or adjust.

One thing I've learned about trading (the hard way)....

The markets are always "right"...my job is to get "right" the market.

Thanks for pointing this out. It's always good to be reminded.

Wow, you must be a political speech writer (pick a party, doesn't matter, LOL)...nice spin. "Dying."

Adapting is a constant part of trading, and I've managed to keep the same win/loss percentage over the last decade or so. "Dying"? Don't think so, not with 150 traders doing it each day.

Anyway, some choose to engage in this, some don't...still a free Country. No need to be "right or wrong" - isn't that what has gotten our Country so divided in recent years? As my friend Simon always says: "It is what it is."

Don :)

Only a couple of hundred + today, had so many traders IM'ng me right near the open I was only able to put in my orders at 30 seconds before 9:30 - some rejected.
