The Opening Orders Thread

worst day ever for openings...

heard news about how brokerages were oversold and didn't put it together...

12 fills / 52000 shares

10 short / 2 long / - 22203.00

- .31 / + 1 .19 %

watch a 10,000 loser go to a 2500 loser then watched it go the the final result...

if i had taken my head out of my ass i would have lost around 2000 in total...

a 900 loss is much better than a 5400 loss....

god i hate my self...

have a nice day....

Quote from dodger fan:

hi chiguy,

sorry for what happened. i have the same problem. now i just put in auto stops whenever i get into a position.

thanks...

i am usually much more disiplined...i am not quite sure how i let it get so out of hand...

Too cautious the last 2 days, no fills. Only one fill today +$200 approx.

Wow, my friend Mr. Chiguy - what the heck, you're much better than that - I'm really sorry. I don't brokers, but they really got you....

Man, Chiguy that really sucks - don't worry though - mistakes happen

I'm sure you'll make it back soon - you've rocked opening orders before - good luck! :D

Mr. Bright and others putting in opening orders,

I started reading about this several (6 or 7 ) years ago when i started getting back to trading. After blowing up a large amount of my money back then I have now again started again and thought that your method is not only great (but IMHO just as important) fits my personality.

I would like to know how do you pick which stocks your going to put orders in for? In the past I used GE and some other big names.

How do you know what to put in for the prices? from what i recall i did about 20 cents or so but really dont remember well enough to know.

I looked around for the link that I thought used to be on elitetrader but did not find it.

Thanks

Bob

We take the day's Fair Value for the futures, add that to the closing price for the SPX spot, and figure the difference between that and where the futures are trading pre-market. That gives us a percentage up or down that we "expect" the stocks to open. If the market is opening down 1 percent, the GE "should" open down 1 percent. We use that for determining our limit orders.

On a day like today, we either get cautious, or go crazy, LOL.

I only had 2 fills, made $1369 - would have made less, but the system was a bit slow due to all the heavy activity...LOL.

Top guy this morning, so far, is $21,600 net (haven't heard from other possible big winners).

Don

hello folks...

5 fills / 5 longs / + 2752.00

doubled my envelopes on all three levels...

1.50% above and below
2.00% "
2.50% "

fwiw...i stayed short 5400 shares of the "brokers" last night as they were the ones who got me yesterday...

+ 20,165.00 on the "gents"...all bought pre-open....not a revenge trade but a logical short considering the rumors and their current levels....

all in all a good day...

Nice play chiguy...

Well I was either going to enter orders with a huge envelope buy side only or not trade the open at all. I ended up entering the buy orders with a .3 envelope & then cancelling them before the open.
"Woulda" gotten only 1 fill long GE a winner & looks like a few others on my list also worked & 1 on my list did not work (WMT).
