The Opening Orders Thread

Mr. Bright (or any other professional who trades the Open and frequents this thread),

A simple question which, for whatever reasons, I can't get a straight answer for from those I've asked:

For professionals, like yourself, who trade the Open, which Opening Price (OP) do you refer to when the OP for a stock has two OP's - one from the NASDAQ (the NOOP) and one from a different exchange which is displayed on the NYSE/Euronext quote site? Which OP do you use to make money? For purposes of illustration let me pick GOOG, a stock which has the NASDAQ as its primary exchange but which routinely displays this "dual OP" phenomenon.

Understand that I'm not saying that one is good and the other is bad. Quite frankly I don't care which one the professionals use, I would simply like to know which one it is.

TIA

lj

PS: I am completely ignorant of the protocol which you use to trade the Open and it could be that it doesn't matter to you which one it is.

The NYSE opening price is the only one we care about. The opening orders strategy pertains to NYSE listed stocks only.

For a review of the methodology, do a search on "Don's Openings" and you'll find all the old threads discussing the basics.

Didn't participate today - at the doctor for a physical.

Not sure which is worse, taking a reaming by a physician, or by the market. Although in the market you can recover from the reaming...

Enjoy the weekend all.

Still laying down drag bunts.

1 long win, 1 short loss on a test position, +84, 2100 shares

The Steelers looked rather impressive last night, so I know you are all happy about that...

No fills for 4 days...today, 2 fills long for 2 small wins JNJ & PG
"Woulda" also been filled long on T but I accidentally cancelled T instead of S (earnings tomorrow)

off yesterday

3 fills / 12000 shares

2 long / 1 short / + 1347.00

out a little to quick today...

hard to judge when you miss the proir day's activity...

2 long, 1 loser, 1 win on a test position, -811 on 2100 shares.

I'd say Tyco raped me, but I basically did it to myself. Way too patient when it wasn't budging on the market run up. That and the fact that I was filled long on a gap up should have been enough of a clue to have a quick trigger.
