Quote from AAAintheBeltway:
I think the theme for weeks six results should be "every dog has its day" or maybe "Revenge of the nerds." Oakland, KC, Buffalo and Carolina, with three wins between them, all won. St. Louis, sadly, did not but made it close in Jacksonville. Detroit was blown out in GB.
Two games will get everybody's attention. NO blew out the Giants and their vaunted defense, 48-27, as Brees had another 360 yard outing. Scary.
Bill Belichick proved again why he is one of the most despised people in professional sports, as the Pats ran it up in a shocking 59-0 humiliation of Tennessee. BB pulled Golden Boy Tom Brady with the score 52-0 in the third quarter but still found it necessary to pass 11 more times against an overmatched Titans defense that was playing two rookie corners because of injuries to starters. Brady seems to enjoy running it up as much as BB, so I'm not going to be too upset when his career is ended by a late hit or helmet to his chin in one of these games. You'd think a team like the Pats would have more class, but Belichick is not familiar with the concept. This is not the BCS. Victory margin doesn't matter, plus you have to play these guys again and again. Plenty of them will hold a grudge.
Shoutouts for road wins this week go to Houston, Carolina, KC, Arizona and Buffalo.
As for my picks, I'm beginning to remind myself of Jacksonville. Up one week, terrible the next. I followed up last week's 3-0 effort with an 0-2 skunking, leaving me11-7 for the year. At least I didn't lay the points with the Iggles, who achieved the considerable feat of making Oakland look decent. I gave the 14 points with the Steelers at home against woeful Cleveland, and Big Ben's 400+ yard passing day should have spelled blowout, but four turnovers plus a 100 yard kickoff return TD by Browns star Josh Cribbs produced a 13 point win.
I gave the points with the Jets at home against the Bills, but sometimes rookie QBs play like rooks and produce 5 INT days. That plus the loss of dominating NT Kris Jenkins offset RB Thomas Jones 210 yard day and handed the Bills an improbable OT win.
Denver at SD tomorrow night should be a good one.
