The ancients discovered mathematics through abstracting every day objects into relations. It didn't just spring from someones imagination.

One of the strangest things about mathematics is that even the most abstract concepts/fields within it thought to having no conceivable application to the description of nature, often turns out to be key in advancement of the discipline. The most striking modern example of this to me is the connection between the Riemann Hypotheses, a problem in Analytic Number Theory, and String Theory, the greatest candidate for a theory of everything.

well no nitro, most of the time the math is fashioned to follow the physics, not the other way around. Quantum has to use a 'rigged' hilbert space for instance.


If physics were that simple, then math would stand as a science. Math however is not to be found in science departments, ask yourself why...

Sadly in modern education it is not seen that logic is taught in science class, which probably explains why some can do the math of science but are clueless as to whether or not what they dream up is logical...
