The living/no job wage

If it's that easy why don't I just go to Outback as long as we are franchising for dinner. They probably have a better steak and nobody is complaining about their wages. As long as it doesn't go over $10 because that's all I am paying no matter how high the min wage goes.

how do you propose the tax payer subsidy of low wages. are you not going to import another 40 million low wage or no wage earning immigrants?

seriously low wages are the govts fault.
imagine where our wages and wealth would be if we did not 60 million more people in the country in the last 40 years or so.

"Capital displaces labor" -- Karl Marx

But that's not what we should be talking about here. If you'd tried the current automated food service (Toronto Airport) you would realize that automation is not going to replace personal service in the restaurant industry anytime soon.

What we are talking about is ending the tax payer subsidy of low wage payers and strengthening the economy by rebuilding the middle class. Of course its understandable that these greedy employers living on the dole don't want to to pay an honest wage.

Wages completely out of sync with the overall economy are causing a large distortions in the U.S. economy. We must fix that problem!

We have already reduced the number of illegal immigrants to trickle. That happened under Obama. What I propose is that we do what most of the other industrialized countries are doing, and that is to go after employers of illegals. Right now it is a slap on the wrist and a modest fine. It needs to be more; much more.

We don't need a fence. We need e-verify, tracking of visa holders, and cracking down on employers of illegals. When there are no jobs for illegal immigrants there won't be any illegal immigrants.

I favor an immigration policy like Canada's. It is based on a point system.

Would you eat at an Applebees's? Would if they paid their workers more? Would you if their food was cheaper? I'm not going to to so they can pay their workers as much as they want and pass it on to me all they want. These wage discussions are like discussions of what we would build if there was no friction. If you pay your workers an honest days wage then I can't afford to eat there. It's just that simple. Somebody needs to get screwed. The one who decides it's no longer worth it it wins.
Java, The weak link in your argument , I believe, is this, "If you pay your workers an honest days wage then I can't afford to eat there." Think about that please, if you will.
