"Two more churches were added to the growing list of churches around the United States that have been vandalized by
Donald Trump inspired and racist graffiti. The churches, located in Silver Spring, Maryland, and Beanblossom, Indiana, were the targets of vandals who incorporated Trump’s name along with Nazi symbols and racist slogans.
"ABC News reported that sometime on Saturday, according to a Facebook post from St. David’s Episcopal, in Beanblossom, Indiana, the outside of the church was painted with three tags, “including ‘Heil Trump’ and a swastika.” Then, on Sunday morning, graffiti was discovered on a banner at an Episcopal church in Silver Spring, Maryland, featuring a Spanish-language mass. A banner was vandalized by someone using a black marker, with the phrase, “Trump Nation, Whites Only,” according to
The Diamondback.
"Though President-elect Donald Trump has said he would tell those responsible to stop it, that has not been enough to slow down a growing wave of racially motivated vandalism and other crimes across the United States. The
New York Daily News reported that on
60 Minutes, Trump said he would tell the perpetrators of vandalism and other hate crimes, not to do these things and that he is going to bring this country together.
"According to ABC News, Indianapolis Bishop Cate Waynick said that the tone set during the presidential election had ’emboldened’ some people, which had made them act openly abusive and insulting to others. She went on to say as faithful people, we have to make sure we do not respond with the same type of behavior. Waynick said that the person responsible for the graffiti is still unknown.
"The feelings were similar at the Episcopal church in Silver Spring, Maryland, which Bishop Marion Budde described in a Facebook post as “…one of the most culturally diverse parishes in the diocese.” The
New York Daily News reported that Bishop Budde said Donald Trump and the people who voted for him must separate from any act of hate and/or violence that is being carried out in his name.
"Parishioners of the church covered the racist graffiti with handmade posters. Bishop Budde went on to say that people of color, immigrants, and others who feel vulnerable cannot be allowed to believe this is who we are as a nation."
