ACRAMENTO (Reuters) - A California bill to let undocumented immigrants become lawyers passed its last legislative hurdle on Thursday and will be sent to Governor Jerry Brown for his signature.

The legislation was prompted by the case of an undocumented Mexican immigrant, Sergio Garcia, who was brought to the United States as a baby and later graduated from a California law school. He has won the support of the State Bar of California and state Attorney General Kamala Harris in his quest to be admitted to practice law, over the objections of the U.S. Justice Department.

The bill passed the state Assembly on Thursday in the waning hours of the legislative session. It would authorize the California Supreme Court, which finalizes applications to become licensed as a lawyer in the state, to admit qualified applicants regardless of their immigration status.

"By the grace of God, I was born on this side of the border," said Democratic Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, who introduced the bill in the Assembly. Were it not for that accident of fate, Gonzalez said, she might have been prevented from becoming a lawyer.

The bill previously cleared the state Senate. It was not clear if Brown, a Democrat, would sign the legislation.

In this instance a law degree is required, as well as passig the California Bar exam -- probably slightly greater qualification then an "accident of fate."

This could be bad for California. The beauty of a Mexican worker is that he/she can't sue you. You just call the INS and the discussion is over. If they have Mexican lawyers you can bet you will get sued. Mexicans are like a giant ant colony. If one wins a lawsuit against an employer they leave a chemical trail that others can read. California will collapse.

SACRAMENTO (Reuters) - California Governor Jerry Brown said on Friday he would sign a bill authorizing the state to provide driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, a last-minute reversal of his position.

Brown said he approved of the measure, which its author had withdrawn on Thursday under the threat of a veto, capping a full day of lobbying by California politicians for immigration reform at the federal level.

"This bill will enable millions of people to get to work safely and legally," Brown, a Democrat, said in an email sent to reporters shortly after midnight.

Tell me Jerry, you silly fuck. How does an illegal alien do anything legally?

There is no failure of the exam here, nor would such be, except under the most extraordinary circumstances, an act of fate. Indeed, if they have a law degree and passed the bar exam, we should give them the license they have earned.

They would easily qualify for a green card, were it not for the fact that they were brought here as a baby illegally, through no fault of their own and are thus undocumented. The underlying cause of their being here in the first place is the avarice of U.S. employers, and the failure of the Government to enforce immigration law. Isn't it but a little too late --twenty years too late-- and extremely cruel, to say "go home", when they have no other home?

There is an absurd rejection of any consideration of practicality by those who want blind and illogical obedience to the civil law twenty years after the fact, where it is so clearly not justified.
