The home audio thread

The monitors are the Alesis monitor-2's I spoke of. The mix cubes aren't shown, but are currently on top of the Alesis's, with appropriate sound cushioning between. I built the speaker stands and added wheels for easy mobility. I'll post an updated pick in the future as my new design takes shape. Still kind of disorganized with the added flat screens for the pro tools. Have to move things around at mix time. The shot you see was taken last year. The keyboard and little mixing board you see are 25 years old. How's that for vintage!? Hey, they still work. :)

You can't see the racks, but I've mostly use korg synths midi'd from the Roland you see, but since I bought pro tools, I'll mostly be using the air tech plugins. I bought the complete package. Awesome, including the strike2 drums. The synths in the plugins are incredible, as are the drums.

I also purchased a Blue Cat multi track spectrum analyzer (can analyze 16 tracks at once) and analyzer pro for single track frequency analysis. They have a free plugin for spectrum analysis (and other tools), also, which I downloaded to demo their paid product. A must for me in simplifying mixing. (I have one project that has over 70 tracks when you add in the drums and percussion...One of the few that I hired a live drummer to work on.)

Horrortones! Thanks for the info and links.

LOL!!!! YES! An absolute must for mixing....just don't watch TV or listen to your favorite CD's thru them! (though technically, the Avantones replaced the true horrortones, the Auratones)

Yeah, I have a pair in black, the actives, somewhere. Sure, I know they're not the originals. ;)

Do you mean electronic dance music? If so, I would say not necessarily. But if you were to say all styles of music, maybe. I've performed on many instruments, produced, and mixed styles from hard rock, country rock, country, bluegrass, classical, traditional and "smooth" jazz. I have not worked with EDM.

Here's a guy who is strictly easy listening jazz, but sounds to me like he might be a good trader.

Yes, Electronic Dance Music

Very interesting! I have known several musicians that are into the financial markets. There was a guy I met on this board named Randy Grimm who makes all kinds of unusual, some may say horrific noise music.

Others were into more traditional stuff, including a heavy metal bass player i met via the markets. Forget his name but he played with several popular bands. surf

Now that's amazing stuff! And one things for sure, he knows strict discipline via music. Why not apply that towards something else most people can't do, or simply dabble in? Thanks for the post

Damn!!!!!!!! Wow!
And what kind of guitars you have? You familiar with ESP?

Fenders: Roadhouse strat, tele, both American made. Ibanez: Nylon string (China), solid body artist and semi-hollow body artist (Japan), SR505 bass (Korea), Gibson SG 65 re-issue (America). Custom 22 PRS (America). I haven't purchased any new guitars in over 15 years. I'm looking at maybe a new bass with more tonal control soon.

Haven't played ESP, but I'm familiar with the name.

Now that I've derailed us with watches, I'll step aside at this point. Wjk just took the top of my head off. Lol! Good stuff! Will read more.

Damn!! I imagine that Gibson has a nice warm tone. Would LOVE to hear what it sounds like. And since I only dabbled in being serious about music, sold my ESP Eclipse with EMG's, and Mesa Boogie head. Wish I had disciplined myself to have stayed with it. Anyhow, the above is so far over my head, I'd probably do best to read. Good stuff though! You should post up some clips of this art in action. I'm eaten up with music!

I had a pair of Aura's given to me, but they didn't work. The Avantones are great, though. Mike Senior thinks they improved upon the Aura's. If your mix sounds good in one of them or an Auratone in mono, it will sound good in any system.
