Ok, so most current EV owners can. Most EV's sold to date have been to upper income folks who can pay EV's higher prices (relatively speaking compared to ICE's) and charger installation costs (again relatively speaking). But Tesla and others are planning to target lower priced models and lower income customers. Let's see how that shakes out. Can't wait for you to emphatically tell us ... in advance what will happen.

You really go out of your way to complicate things. 50% of Americans lives in the suburbs and entry level Teslas today cost about the average price of a new ice car.
And how much of suburbia is private homes?
Stat I found says around 60%. And 60% of 50 is 30%.

Yes the bottom rung model compares to an average American car for sale, but not to bottom rung comparables. Ya know, apples to apples.

The market for home owned suburban household is still far larger than existing EV penetration, meaning there is still a few years of untapped market for EVs.
The average car price in the US is $47k while the entry level Tesla 3 is $40k and the entry level BMW is $45k.
I know what the average car price and I know the Tesla 3 is not comparable to it. Entry level to entry level
And of course there are more homes that can, and maybe even will, get an EV and home charger. I live in suburbia and as I said previously off-premises charger sites by me, and when I travel, are busy. For an obvious reason.
My point is that the potential market (home charging) is not as large as you fan bois like to claim. That is all. Done beating it to death.

But the USG is subsidizing the rich suburbia, subtracting $7500 Fed credit, $2500 CA state credit and $1000 SoCal electric credit + reduce electric rate, it's cost is below $30K, like the cost of a new Corolla. With reduce electric rate, it is cheaper than fill up with expensive CA gasoline.
If you are poor, you are out of luck.
Only problem, for EV makers, is that there is a lot more poor than rich.
Oh and how about that Cali program they are running currently, asking for volunteers to participate tracking mileage to judge how-to, in the future, charge motorists of (I believe both EV's and ICE's) to drive on state roads. Since EV's don't pay gas taxes to get them to contribute to maintenance/rebuilding costs of highways.
Add that to the cost of ownership, the pendulum starts to swing back.
I anticipate as more EV's pop up the price of gasoline will come down, relatively speaking, as there is less demand. Also the price of electricity will go up, again relatively speaking, as there is more demand.

This type of wording always annoys me. There is no such thing as a tax-credit. Who is paying for this credit? Well... guess who pays taxes. THE PEOPLE. You've already paid. You're just paying more taxes now everywhere else, and through inflation tax.
It's the same shit like Trudeau's carbon-tax credits. Just another sham, which I'm happy to say Woke Canada is ready to oust him after 10 years of failed government and scandals (his own libertard party is already trying to get rid of him), and we're going to Axe-the-Tax when it comes to carbon schemes.
