Most EV's sold to date have been to upper income folks who can pay EV's higher prices (relatively speaking compared to ICE's) and charger installation costs (again relatively speaking). Most EV buyers can charge at home, and is the reason it makes it abundantly convenient to own an EV. America's suburbia is legendary and the goal of EV manufacturers is to reach them first.
The EV solution for urban dwellers is significantly more complicated, and the easiest solution is public transport.
