The demographics of US warriors

or you could avoid being a ignorant racist leftist and figure the south raises more people to honor our country and wish to serve in its military.

If you spend time outside of your sheltered liberal existence you would understand that some of the smartest people around run farms whether they finished college or not. Understanding commodity pricing and risks, taking loans, planting, running equipment, hiring people... I am not saying your are stupid because you are not... but you need to understand it takes a shitload more intelligence to run a decent sized farm than it takes to install AC units with a greenhouse gas 2000 times more powerful than co2. ( by the way, If you run a business with employees, I modify my comments accordingly.)

And I have never farmed a day in my life.. but I have visited them. And when I lived in Florida for 3 years... I came to realize the guys running farms were shit load smarter than most of the people I knew growing up in the Northeast or as an adult in California.

You might also notice what ricter said...

look at the chart... why would maine be dark blue. Its probably because the military employs a lot of the 18 to 24 years old up there.
VA and North Carolina have a big military presence.

Why is CA light blue? I know there is a large Military presence here in Southern California.

So grow up and stop being so fricken lefty racist.

Boy we can superimpose a bunch of demographics that would be the same states including the following;

education level

intelligence

economic recovery since 2008 financial crisis

religiosity

political affiliation

tolerance of gays and a woman's right to an abortion

gun nuttery

I'm sure there is more. I would say xenophobia but that would not be fair given the proximity to Mexico.

So you're saying that atheists, homosexuals, Univ of Missouri scholars don't want to defend the country? Ok. I can buy that.

You left out one group, though. Believers in global warming. I'm guessing they wouldn't want to defend the country, either.

Oh yeah.....

And these are regions where only 30 to 35 percent of people believe scientists agree on climate change. (Ninety-seven percent agree, for the record.) There's a lot of skepticism swirling around in America's heartland and the South:

So we can probably draw some conclusions here. Who wants to go first?

Oh heck, I'll go.

The south and the heartland is filled with dumb, religious, intolerant, ignorant, conservative gun nuts who aren't college material, and this group likes to join the military to get the hell out of the impoverished, depressed, boring places they are living, go to exotic foreign lands and kill the people there.... and wave the flag.

Bring back the draft with one caveat. No deferments other than severe physical and/or mental challenges. I'd be curious as to how many of our nations wealthy and politically connected would rather be deemed crazy than serve. That would be one way to change the political dynamic. OH, I see, you hear voices and sometimes think you're Jesus. At least we'd know what kind of people we're electing, not that anyone with a brain hasn't already figured it out.

well that's one way to get pot legalized

Thanks. To be fair, not everyone in those places is like that. It's a generality.

The defining reason may simply be rural vs urban. Exposure to different ideas. Culture.
I think it's more economics specifically, than culture.
