The case of andrew tahmooressi

Obviously the kid is messed-up, but I don't think for a second that he intended any harm, regardless of how many mags and rounds he had in his possession. I also think he made an honest mistake complicated by the lies down the road, but it's not like they snatched him in La Jolla or he was carrying bibles. An AR, 12-gauge and nearly 500rds.

Sure, they could've said, "please go back with your arsenal" but it's not how any border operates. Let's get f*cking real here.

Mexico is a f*cking sewer and a narco-state. I hope he makes it back asap.

The San Diego article also pointed out how the kid tried to escape twice, including scaling a wall with barbed wire, etc. Sounds like he's a true section 8.

It's my understanding that he had not cleared customs and was simply trying to turn around (from the story), and mentioned the guns because he knew they would find them.

I think that's the crux of the BS he came up with and now is blaming on his first lawyer who, "told him to lie." A Mex border official motioned him to pull over. He never mentioned the guns until talking to the Mex officials.

TBH it wouldn't have mattered anyway. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/marine-released-prison-mexico-article-1.1225008

And that was an antique shotgun. Don't try to bring weapons into Mex. It's dumb.

He's not all there, for sure. Of course Tahmooreesi became the target of many threats to his life once the indigenous population realized he was a reservist.

The problem with that situation seems to be the US agents told him it wouldn't be a problem in Mexico, according to that article.

Jon Hammar? Yes, indeed and completely innocent. And look what he went through! He made every attempt to declare it to both sides and was arrested do to incompetence (US Customs). MONUMENTAL difference between that case and the current.

Had you ever heard a word about Hammar until I posted that? Where was the public outcry for Hammar while being held in CEDES (arguably their worst prison, and for months) for attempting to declare an antique shotgun with no shells?

I guess what aggravates me is the lack of push to get him home - with all the aid we give Mexico year after year. Even in the Hammar situation, it should never have taken that long.

Gee, a leftist rag that doesn't really care about an American imprisoned in a foreign country. Shocking. The facts are that we really don't know all the facts and neither do the radical leftists at Salon. Given these circumstances one would think that every real American would rather see the guy brought back to this country and face whatever charges he may need to address.

When Lucrum says he wasn't in Mexico, he means the guy wasn't caught in Mexico (like Cancun or Mexico City, etc.

He was "caught" at the border in trying to make a U turn, essentially.

I get that, it was just that Lucrum in berating someone for being "Another dumb fuck being "liberal" with the facts to suit their agenda. He wasn't IN Mexico. " --- well if he was not IN Mexico where was he? and do the Mexicans not have the right to imprison people who cross their border even at a checkpoint who are doing things illegally? The US do it.
If he did not preface then follow it up with the normal rubbish folks seem necessary to have to throw at each other here to distract from what is a serious case (and clearly a repeated one) then I would not have cared.....and if that makes me a grammar Nazi and all that then whatever - if you cant have a discussion without all the crap name calling, and BS then it shows why you guys clearly have the government that represents you best. :)

Sorry for the rant, it would be nice to read a discussion without the instant us v them distractions as now more information is coming out. (I dont do the ignore button as I dont like censorship and ignorance)

Yes, the instant us v them business is a distraction. There are now more than two dozen news sources for this. If one doesn't like the reporting from one, there are others to choose from. I'm not Newton Minow.
